We stayed at the hotel so we ran there for lunch the first day. The food was good as was the service. Lovely view and nice people. We returned for breakfast the next morning. Attentive waitress and good solid breakfast foods. Key lime pie with the chocolate crust was a-okay. LuciP

This was the perfect place to have lunch - conch fritters were the best we've had this trip, excellent cocktails and gorgeous view. I really liked the casual atmosphere and laid back vibe.

Just what we were looking for--a tasty meal in a fantastic setting, right on the beach. My wife had their Chicken Quesadilla (oh yes, without the chicken!!) and I had their Mango BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. This was a really good meal with great service and the most beautiful view . . . and the southernmost restaurant in the U.S. Can't beat that combo.

Happy hour was a pain. The bartenders are slow and smug. I couldnt give it one star because we didnt eat there. The happy hour appetizer looked good, but they only let you eat them in their cattle call bar.

The only reason we go here any more is the view which is spectacular They used to have palatable fare, now it is below that. Nachos served with cheese that is awful and bottled not fresh salsa. Really, in Florida?

great beach for people watching, best bloody marys on the Rock. Food is ok, service is ok. Sometimes topless boobies and t-backs on the beach, and that's just the guys.

This review is only fir the piña colada at the beach bar! Usually I run when I see machines...or 10 churning out a rainbow of sugar concoctions but the piña colada here was like a milkshake! My girlie girlfriend was sooo happy we went back several times. The're pricy at $8 for a small plastic cup, but that's prob the location...

I know this is a Key West favorite but I wasn't impressed. The view was nice but we had pigeons flying into the restaurant as we were eating. One of our meals had an hair in it and took almost an additional 25 mins to make another. I got the biscuits and gravy and it was ehhh. Everyone at the table just thought their food was just "ok". I'd say try Sarabeths over this restaurant. Besides the view it wasn't worth it.

Stopped here for a drink before getting on the beach, then for lunch on the way back. Very good and a convenient place if you are going to South Beach. Had similar food at other restaurants that was a little bit better, so going with 4 stars instead of 5.

  • Chris S.

Great food and service for awsome dinner atmosphere on the beach front. My wife loved the scampi dish she had, and I enjoyed the penne pasta dish. Calamari was the best we've had in 5 years. Service was also great! You won't be disapointed.

  • Laura S.

Food was mediocre, but overpriced due to the view of ocean (the best part of the restaurant). Service also lacked, as we waited for our waiter to bring us the check for almost 20 minutes. One thing I really didn't like was that there was a DJ/reggae singer kinda guy set up on the beach right in front of the restaurant. He was clearly a part of the restaurant, but why would anyone want music blasting at them so they couldn't hear anyone else at their table? Luckily for us, he left half way into our meal, but that was long enough.

  • Mary Jean D.

We arrived 15 early for our reservation, and the hostess said "no problem--have some champagne while you're waiting"-- and then refilled our glasses after we were seated! Service was great, not rushed, frequent water refills, "satisfaction checks". The food was very good too, as were the drinks. Enjoyed the view and beautiful sunset. Perfect for small and large groups with or without kids.

I had fun, however their little grill your own chicken thingy at Happy Hour is a rip off, but so many tourists thinks it's cool.

Delicious food, but they somehow lost our reservation. BUT - even with 9 of us on New Years Eve they still were able to seat us and gave us a free round of drinks while we waited!

Had lunch there two days in a row and the staff were terrific. On Christmas Day, they ware so busy and the staff still did a great job. My husband loved the seared tuna appetizer. My great niece loved how the waiter made her a Shirley Temple with extra cherries and went out of his way to treat us all very well. The hostess also was great to deal with, and the view is wonderful. Cool ocean breezes, lots of people having fun on the beach and life doesn't get much better!

I had gone here for late night drinks a couple of years ago, and wanted to go back during the day. My friends ordered salads (crispy chicken - eh - too many dry chow mein noodles, and the Black and Bleu Shrimp Salad which my friend finished - good?) but I opted for the Blackened Mahi BLT wrap, which not only was a good size, but also very very yummy. We were only there for lunch, but I had a good experience and would go again. Lovely view of the ocean, and you can dip your feet in the water after your meal!

The key lime Caesar salad with blackened shrimp was outstanding! Small shrimp, but great quality and quantity. Not doused in dressing at all!

Went there both nights and had good food both times. The burgers really are just as good as any of their fancier meals, we ordered our medium rare and they were great, nicely seasoned. I ordered the chicken quesadilla which was half the size of a small pizza and full of fresh peppers, chicken, and gooey cheese. I ate that over the course of two days. For dessert one night we got a Turtle Cheesecake, it was covered in the most delicious toffee caramel I've ever had. On another night we got some of the fancier dishes. My mom had the Lobster Cakes for dinner and pulled out half a lobster claw, but the cakes didn't have a lobster flavor. My dad got the surf and turf of flat iron steak and a lobster tail, but he drank too much that night to remember how it was. I ordered the South Beach snapper which was a little fishy but the blacked shrimp topping was great and complimented the dish. The meals are overpriced, around $25 to $35, but if you stick with the appetizers and the 'lighter fare' like burgers and quesadillas you'll have a decently priced meal. Their conch fritters were good, almost as good as BO's. Their coconut shrimp though was very large and my favorite appetizer.

I stopped here because I have a bad habit of not eating all day, and then it hits me! Don't me lazy like me, walk somewhere else and eat. The food was so, so just not worth it.....but that is what I think and who the heck am I to tell you.....but don't say I didn't say so.......just sayn

Food was slightly below average. They had fruit salads (with rotten fruit) but the waitress could not bring out a whole banana. There were fans with fine mists of water being shot out intermittently and the table (and diners) had a nice soaking by the time the bill came around. The restaurant is open-air and its on some kind of bay where some fishing is going on. It STANK like, well, a city harbor. We never went back.

    (2)
  • Allison S.

The service here is excellent. There is a large variety of options, and the food is quite good. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think the items are overpriced.

My favorite place in Key West! Good food, great happy hour prices! Christian at the bar was a great resource on what to see and eat in town. 4 to 7 is happy hour at the beachside bar. 3 dollar wells, domestic draft, house wine and appetizers. The calamari is ta must for 3 bucks. The Rum Runners are also on the $3 special and are stout. Oh, and the happy hour drinks are in pint glasses not the rocks glasses that you would expect. All in all, this is an excellent stop for a vacationer, or a local.

  • Shane F.

Pay close to four star, eat more like one. Your paying for the ocean view. Salad is on par with Wendys, and the fries were below wendys. I swear they had been fried and sat under a heat lamp for 8 hours. Key lime margarita is ok. Not worth eating there for it though.

Great cheap lunch. Large portions so no one at our table finished. Friendly service and nice beach view added to the dining experience

  • Pito S.

A beachside, casual restaurant. It has a very nice lunch menu. The prices are not too bad - Key West typical which is on the high side in my opinion. Hey but they say because it's an island ("island") things are more expensive. I don't know. But anyway, I recommend this place and I would definitively go again!

  • Joob B.

Pretty tasty breakfast with a great view of the Atlantic. Breakfast was huge (maybe I just ordered the king size option). Hot Cakes were very good. Go for the view and great breakfast.

    (4)
  • Kevin T.

Great Happy Hour specials! The food is delicious and the view is even better. If you can get past bartenders who have little-to-no patience for tourists (especially foreigners) and will often neglect parts of the bar, then it's definitely worth the experience.

    (4)
  • Robert C.

This is an okay choice for Breakfast, I can't speak to lunch or dinner. The dishes range from $5 to $11 and they give you a massive amount of food. We ate here for breakfast four times and the quality of the food is inconsistent (crummy eggs one day, under cooked potatoes a few others), but you get a water view and its a good value for what you get.

    (3)
  • C A.

Good, the server was a bit slow but he was very energetic, and to have a nice snack right next to the ocean was spectacular and it was moderatly priced. I ordered a drink with my meal ( a drunken sailor) and unfortunatly couldnt finish it, it was tooooo strong, but hey better than a weak drink right!

    (5)
  • Eric T.

We stumbled here for lunch after coming out of the Butterfly & Nature Conservatory. Overall, the food was just ok/underwhelming and nothing that special to remember. The calamari appetizer was ok but slightly too much breading and the pieces of calamari were a tad too big. The entrees were standard fare. Like other folks mentioned, you do get a nice view of the beach. But in the end, it is just a beach restaurant with average food and ok prices.

The BEST place we found for breakfast in Key West...too bad we found it the last day :( The location is great...one block from "southernmost point" monument right on the beach! Really! The sand goes right up to the front door. It's open and airy. Brightly painted and decorated. The staff is very friendly and you can tell quite a few diners are locals. The drinks (mimosas and coffee) are great! Fresh squeezed oj in the mimosas. The food came out quickly and it was wonderful. Eggs Benedict were perfect and everyone else at my table raved about their various breakfasts. Very clean place too. Definately try this one on your first day!

We stayed in one of the ocean front rooms at the Southernmost and it was a bit pricey, but the view was nice. The cafe sits on the public beach at Southernmost and I would have never thought of it as being a good place. For happy hour, the drinks are cheap. This is in a town where it is nothing to spend $10 for a well drink or $12-$14 for a top shelf drink. The bartenders are fast and the place is alot of fun. For dinner, the food was superb. The price was moderate. The view was excellent. For breakfast, the portions were huge and the prices moderate. The one down side is that the place is obviously popular, so if you always want a table in the restaurant proper, there always seems to be a wait. However, go early for breakfast and go late for dinner and there is no wait. All of the wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

I don't even want to call this place a beach. It was very obvious that it was just some sand dumped in and spread out. In fact, there was a machine driving around still spreading it. By the water, the sand completely disappeared and it was just mud and seaweed. The place was the size of someone's backyard, and was crowded even with only 10 people there. Lounge chairs are available for rent for $5.00, which I thought was steep, considering tourists can't stand the heat for more than a few hours. The aforementioned sign is propped up on a tiny cash-only bar that looked like it was staffed by a homeless man. While I have no problem with being nude, this was neither an appropriate nor an attractive place for it. In fact, I was hesitant to drop my towel in front of this guy, who seemed like the type who would covertly take pictures of girls in bikinis and post them on his XXX voyeur website, sexxxyturistaz.com .

During our week in Key West, we ate lunch here almost every day, with a couple of dinners as well. The food is priced right and tastes great. The service is outstanding. The atmosphere is casual. And you're sitting directly on the beach with a clear view of the water. My favorite lunch dish was the Tropical Chicken Sandwich. I liked it so much, I'm going to make them at home now. For your side order, go ahead and get the fries (either sweet potatoes or regular) because they taste much better than the other side dishes. The Key Lime pie was also very good. And if you're going back for dinner, ask your lunch waiter or hotel conceirge for a free appetizer voucher. The coconut shrimp was yummy. I will certainly be back next time I'm on the island. Good stuff.

We love Southermost Beach Cafe and eat breakfast or lunch here whenever we are in town. The food is fresh and reasonably priced. It is great to sit in the restaurant on Juan's beach, sip frozen drinks and people watch. My honey loves the prime rib sandwich and I love the Mahi club wrap!

Hogfish entree was amazing! Some kind of light creamy crab sauce drizzled onto my plate. I licked it clean. Best conch fritters we have had in the Keys. Great waiter - he picked out a super rum for me. I disliked how they covered my key lime pie in syrup and chocolate crust. My partner had spicy fish pasta that he enjoyed, even though the tomato sauce was a bit too sweet.

Have been going here for years now. Dont expect the waiters to be perfect, but they are friendly and if u dont try to BS them they treat u very well. Food is standard, but very good and the view and location are awesome. Its a must every time I visit Key West.

  • John N.

Food here was good but the prices are typical of Key West meaning a little overpriced for what you get. The atmosphere is nice, sort of an open patio design. There are a number of fans positioned throughout the restaurant but they didn't keep the no see ums from attacking. I had the ceviche which was good and a Mahi dish which was also good. Definitely a nice place to take in the warm weather and ocean scenery.

  • Sarah N.

We are happy tonight that we don't have food poisoning. This was awful. My mahi-mahi fish tacos tasted like a rotten seafood market. My boyfriends ceviche tasted like food poisoning in the making. We aren't the type to send food back so we ate most of it due to horrible hunger and the super high prices. This is all about the beach location. I guess they get away with it because tourists don't always check online reviews.

    (1)
  • Beth W.

First, if you notice the keys people gives this restaurant a pretty good rating. If we want "great" food, we know where to go and how much it will cost. This is a great little place to eat and view the ocean. The food is average to above average, just about what you should expect for the prices. My family has made the Southern Most Beach Cafe one of our regulars for years, a great little spot that children can enjoy also. Five stars because it has really rarely disappointed us and the location can't be beat.

We went for breakfast on a Tuesday morning. We were seated within 10 minutes at a lovely beach side table. Our server took drink orders promptly and my husband's coffee cup was never empty or cold. The OJ was fresh. We ordered the special omelet and the number 1. There did seem to be several people waiting on food which was delivered table by table quickly once it started coming out. It was quite breezy and I was relieved my food came out hot and stayed that way. The portions were generous. Each meal was served with fruit which was a mix of pineapple, melon and grapes - nothing fancy but not canned. The house potatoes were cooked well and the omelet was packed with ham, tomato, cheese, asparagus and spinach. The corned beef hash was homemade and delicious. Our server, Cory was professional and knew the specials. Restroom was clean and decor is a nice beach casual. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a beach side breakfast and we are anxious to return to try the dinner menu.

Great happy hour prices ($3 rumrunners and select appetizers). We go here at least once per KW visit soley for the mango daquiris, so smooth and yummy. On the downside, the service is always terrible and the mango daquiris are $8 each, which i consider to be a lot, especially for how fast they go down, so we try to move on after one (or maybe 2).

We had a couple really great meals at the Southernmost Cafe. The first was breakfast - the shrimp and crab omelette. I would have liked to see a little avocado in with the seafood but I guess that's a California thing. The omelette was great and the potatoes that came with it were fantastic, kind of spicy mixed in with a little bit of peppers and onions. The second time we went was for a late lunch of peel and eat shrimp. Now, apparently there are two different kinds of peel and eat shrimp, ones that are just steamed and served cold or the kind I prefer, where they're steamed in beer with lots of Old Bay seasoning. Southernmost served a great version of the latter. The third time we went was for dinner and we were very impressed by the change in atmosphere - candles, white linens on the tables. I had the special, snapper caught 2 hours before and served with an orange butter sauce. It was fantastic. My boyfriend had a steak and raved about it the entire time. We had the key lime pie for dessert - key lime pie with a chocolate crust and served on a drizzle of chocolate sauce. I definitely recommend this place if you're staying on this side of the island, the servers are very friendly and the food is excellent.

A beautiful open air restaurant with what I found to be pretty delicious food. Our server was fantastic, she even helped us map out some locations to visit. However the place is busy and the hostess seems to be required to take carry-out phone calls while your party waits to be greeted let alone seated. Sit back, cool off under the fans and try the shrimp wraps

  • Brenda N.

I think I found Southernmost Beach Bar and Cafe on another website. Again, between 3 and 4 stars on the food but the location - how can you beat it? Sometimes, you go a little lighter on the food for the show. What a show! Their patio is on prime real estate overlooking the Southermost Beach pier - spectacular view for us, dining at sunset. Our server, Brendan, was fast and attentive. The bread was warm, we had the coconut shrimp as an appetizer, crisp and hot. Garden salads were fine, not worth writing extra about. My eldest daughter had the mahi-mahi sandwich, blackened - she especially liked the key lime aioli on it. My grilled mahi-mahi was just right. Overall, I would go back - beautiful spot, EXTREMELY casual (the boys in our family were still in their board short bottoms from swimming in the ocean 5 minutes before we walked in), decent wine list, Shirley Temples for the kids.

    (4)
  • Kay M.

Conveniently located on the premises of Southernmost on the Beach. Perfect spot to have a cafe. The place is friendly. Although my friends got good breakfasts, my biscuits and gravy were so greasy I sent them back. My first time ever rejecting a food order. The waiter and manager agreed, said a new batch would be made, was good about making it right. Two eggs come with it, which I ate and paid for - and chose not to reorder - the eggs filled my appetite! The pina colatas are delish.

We stayed at the hotel and went here for breakfast. It was a Monday in March around 9am and we waited about 15 minutes. Food was great- quiche special and the Benedict with crab and shrimp. Great ambiance although the service was slow, we waited 5 minutes to get greeted which is way too long. Staff was friendly and restaurant was clean. We would go back.

  • Michelle H.

Pros- The view from our table was great. We could see the beach and clear blue ocean. Cons- I don't believe the food was worth the hype. We ordered the Wedge Salad, Calamari, Caesar Salad with shrimp, and the Pusser's Painkiller cocktail (32 oz.). Our total was $52, coming to a grand total or $60 after tip. The calamari was greasy and the breading would fall off as you picked it up. The Caesar salad was your standard Caesar, as was the wedge salad. Nothing too spectaular. As for the cocktail, it was extremely hard to stomach. The spices on top and the blend of flavors was intense and did not seem to have much cohesion. All in all, the food here was sub par, and seemed to be more suited to the average tourist, not so much for the foodie. Do not let the 4 star rating fool you!

  • Teri D.

Every day we were there the beach itself at the shoreline was covered in seaweed and a few bits of trash leftover from someone getting their drink on the night before. I never noticed it being raked or cleaned up any. It's basically in a cove with a hotel on one side and the big pier (which is great to be on for sunrise and sunset photos) on the other. There is a restaurant on the beach for food and you can rent chairs there unless you are staying at the hotel and then it's included. I only walked along the beach a couple of times just to say I was there but preferred Higgs and Fort Zachary way way better for getting in the water or catching some sun.

More like 3.5 stars overall, but rounded up for the view. Come for the view. The view here is amazing. I've been to a lot of gorgeous beaches in my lifetime, but the Southernmost Beach is really pretty. Nearly-white surgary sand, clean and well maintained. The cafe sits at the end of a residential street right on the beach. It's about a 5 minute walk from the Southernmost Point, and a 5 minute walk from the Butterfly Conservatory (which is a must see). The food here is very average. We ordered conch fritters, fish tacos, caesar salad and a grilled fish sandwich. It was tasty but not anything special. The service was slow but it looked like they were really busy. We came about 20 minutes before the lunch rush (probably around 11:40 am) and we got seated right away. Bathrooms were clean and the Hop On Hop Off trolley stop was very close by (Stop #11). My family was glad we chose here as our lunchbreak during our day tour of Key West. Lovely memories of the views and the beach.

The view is amazing! It's the quintessential place to have lunch or dinner if you visit the keys. The food is pretty good and the bar is also a great place to grab a drink. It's right on the sand. Giving it four because the food isn't blow your mind good compared to some other places in Key West but scenery and ambiance makes up for it.

Worst experience for the last seven months I'm in the US. I won't go into the details, I'm trying to forget about the whole thing. Overcooked. Unfrozen food. Fatty. Tasteless. Nothing fresh. Even the deserts they can't have something else than vanilla for ice cream. How come owners of this beautifully located place let such a disaster going on in their kitchen. I hope we'll find other places worth eating at, because it looks like we are kinda stuck here...

  • Tom G.

Great place with a great view. Two minute walk from the "Southernmost Point" buoy. Stopped in for late breakfast. It was a bit crowded, but think that was because it was rainy and people were not eating and getting the hell out - just relaxing and taking up table space. Service was pretty good - rain let up once we sat down and a lot of folks left. Good breakfast menu, expected prices, but I thought the portions were on the small side. I'd probably try it again, but there was a cuban breakfast place around the corner I wish I tried that AM instead.

We came here twice because the food was so good! I had a burger my first night and it was so yummy! The second time we ended up here, it was for our last meal before we left key west! Love love LOVE this place!

Food was amazing! I had blackened fish tacos and they were awesome. My kid had the grilled cheese and it was the best ever! I kept sneaking bites of it. Her french fries were very crunchy and tasty! The burger my wife loved and I had an Angry Orchard on Tap!! Our server Denise was amazing! Ask for her and you won't be disappointed! We will be back. View is beautiful.

I've been here several times and had a great dish every time. I've been for lunch and dinner. Dinner is very romantic if you can sit near the water side of the restaurant and can see the sunset. My dining partner had two complaints this trip: that the bottled beer didn't seem to be cold and that the tuna tartare was too fatty. The drinks are pricey too but considering the location that's not a surprise. I want to go back every time I'm in Key West.

First of all, half a star for the old dude strutting out in a banana hammock and scaring all the chicks out of the water. Second of all, half a star for the chicks who put on a show for us on the beach right in front of the seating area. (We found out later that night one of them actually turned out to be a dancer at Teaser's...) Props to the staff for finding seating for our 13 person party fairly quickly and also for putting up with our drunk asses for a couple hours. I didn't eat here as I had eaten earlier that day, but our server was terrific. I kept calling you by your first name like I knew you for years, but for the life of me, I can't remember your name.

This is a popular spot on the island. It's (big surprise here) on the far southernmost part of the island, and it's got a GREAT view. Open air seating right on the beach. We went for breakfast and had to wait Food was good, not great, as was the service. We would go back for the view but not for the food. Nothing bad, but nothing great either. Overall, A-OK.

Quick, comfy place. Good location, great view of the ocean and pier. Conch fritters are excellent. Blackened fish taco was really good -- very meaty, no skimpin. Service very friendly. My only reservation is that the menu is pretty sparse. Pork, steak, chicken.... I'm sitting at the edge of the country staring at the ocean. Gimme more bar grub.

Fresh catch special, red snapper with choice of sauce/preparation was so good I went back to have it again! My preparation was a coconut curry sauce--perfection! Their sangria was sublime AND they had Guiness on tap much to my hubby's satisfaction!! Excellent key lime pie and Irish cream cheesecake!

Amazing location, decent food, poor service. We were here for brunch on a Saturday morning. You can't beat the location - right on the beach, steps from the ocean. Good variety of brunch items on the menu. Drinks were tasty. Negatives: - several pigeons roaming about the dining area. A few of my friends were bit on the toes. Being from the northeast, I am accustomed to pigeons. But this many pigeons at your feet while eating - too much. - we had to ask for water 3 times before it was served - overall slow service (and not all the tables were filled). I would return for the view, however I would probably just order drinks, as the long wait for food was not worth it.

Great atmosphere (open to the beach), food and they have Guinness, bonus! Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed the food here! We had lunch and brunch the next day. I had the fish tacos, they were good. For brunch I had the omelette with shrimp and crab, so good!!!! The waitress in the morning was a lil absent minded, but overall it was good. The view is great and the ambiance is nice. Def recommend.

Great dinner with a view. The wait staff were attentive and nice. My husband had the special and I had the burger, both very good. The Cuban egg roils were delicious!

Best place I ate all week in Key West! Ate here for dinner and got wonderful short rib sliders and nachos! The bucket drinks were awesome and the bartender John was the nicest one we've encountered all week :) The brunch was wonderful too and I was very happy with my corned beef hash and Bloody Mary.

I am so disappointed in my fellow yelpers! Why oh why!! The rating for this cafe made me make reservations for a nice evening out, but then I kept on reading the reviews and it was all about the view! I became a bit sketchy about how good the place might be so I decided, well let's go for happy hour and check the amazing view out and go to a different place for dinner. We drive up to it, walk up through the gate and behold, it's the cafe in front of me, sand under my feet, and the ocean to my right! Sounds pretty huh? But it's the opposite! Guys, your surrounded by the water in key west, I can have this view in many places, how is this special? It's not! In fact, there are much much better views in key west! Honestly, if you think this view is amazing you really haven't seen key west then! Trust me when I say this!

Had two meal here, lunch and dinner. Both waited 20 min. So reservation is needed. You can wait among the crowd on the beach, rent a chair or splash in water. Food is generally ok. Our waiter didn't appear a lot but good enough to serve food and get check, with somewhat long wait.

Service is slow. Fish is not fresh and cooks bad. How dare they call the fish catch of the day. Such bad fish cost $32! terrible place. One star is for the sea.

Went with my wife. Food was great. Had the lobster tail which was well prepared and my wife had a magi salad. The coconut shrimp as an appetizer is to die for. Reasonably priced and the view is great! Atmosphere is casual

I am giving this place one star just because of the fact that we sat down and immediately Marta came up to me and said you can't sit here but you can sit over there. Because the place get full quick. There was a total of 4 tables with people dining. In my opinion not hospitable at all.

  • Abhi V.

Had a bite for lunch here. A very limited choice in terms of food. It's more a place to have a drink and a quick bite while you enjoy the view, the sand and the sun. I had the mahi mahi sandwich which was very functional in filling me up and not much more. Would certainly recommend it for those looking to have a drink and enjoy he view!

After walking down Duval, we decided to stop in and enjoy a lite lunch and a few drinks. Seated very quickly, and beverages brought out just as fast. We had an order of nachos which where excellent.

The food is absolutely amazing. Went there twice and had to get the lobster benedict both times. Also tried a few other items from friends plates and they were all delicious as well. The only probkem was a rude waiter the first time, but the manager came to the table and apologized. Service was much better the second time around.

I loved this place and can't wait to go back. It is definitely on my return list. I can't remember if I ordered a black bean burger or a veggie burger, but it was good. I added my extra tomatoes and avocado - sat there with a perfect view of the beach and a nice breeze, took a break from walking back and forth and really enjoyed my meal. Good food. Nice view. Nice breeze. Friendly staff. Good Service. Relaxing Atmosphere. I will be back and hopefully sooner than later.

Stopped in for lunch and ate at the bar. The place was packed, as you might imagine for a place right on the beach. It's definitely a casual feel. No need to dress up here. I think some of the tables look out on the beach, so if you get one of those, it might be a nice view. At the back of bar, I could only see a sliver of the ocean. I got the Hemingway Punch - Mount Gay black barrel rum, cointreau, blackberry brandy, orange & pineapple juice. Wasn't a huge fan. I also ordered the pulled pork sandwich with mango BBQ sauce. Didn't taste the mango at all, but the sandwich was good. My favorite thing was the side order of fries. They tasted like they were beer battered, which is always a good thing. Since the place was so busy, service from the bartender(s) was kinda spotty, but not negligent or anything. I'd come back if I were in the area, but it's not worth going out of your way to eat here.

  • Jeff N.

The food was reasonably good, the prices were very fair, and the views are spectacular. Situated on the beach with sandy shores 30 feet away, it is a romantic spot as well as a semi-casual getaway. The service was ok and they were out of the champagne we ordered. But I'd definitely recommend the restaurant.

I had the Hog Fish stuffed with Crab. One unique and delicious meal. My service was great, professional, friendly, helpful, and timely. Sitting outside on the Atlantic serves as a beautiful peaceful backdrop. It just doesn't get any better.

We stayed at the hotel, which makes it an easy walk to the cafe. But, it doesn't matter where you stay... You have to eat here at least once. We dined at night with a full moon it was so perfect. He had snapper with bok Choy and I had the seafood pasta with a spicy red sauce. Both were awesome! The bread was nice and warm and they served it with butter and an olive oil vinegar spice mix. We also had take away one evening for a near midnight snack. The caprese salad and the shrimp cocktail were perfect and super fresh. The staff is pleasant and accommodating. I recommend going later after the beach crowds have gone if you are looking for a quieter dinner. We'll be back!

Had a delicious mango mojito and fish dip that tasted fresh, with bits of jalapeño. Yum. But the best part by far was the gorgeous view and ocean breeze. Would definitely go back for the ambiance. Great service.

Front row to the end of the U.S. Very nice place with a very pleasant staff and beautiful views of the ocean. Started off with pork egg rolls and conch fritters. Conch was ok, egg rolls were fabulous. Our party was of four and we each got a fresh fish dinner. Butter poached Hogfish was my choice, stuffed with crab meat, chorizo, bacon, corn and rice. Very very tasty, my wife enjoyed the bass with garlic mushrooms. Our friends had a blackened tile fish and grilled hogfish over veggies and rice. Ended dinner with coffee and tea and a slice of key lime pie in a chocolate gram crust.

The drinks were nothing special but I would recommend stopping by during the day to sit on the beach or at night to watch the sunset from the pier. If you are going to get a drink, stick to wine or beer and ask for them in to go cups (they fill them to the brim, even with the wine) - the mixed drinks (margaritas especially) were way too sweet and mostly mixers.

I've been going to this beach and cafe for years. I love it. The staff is always friendly and I always seem to meet interesting people at the bar. The beach can get a little crowded at times when they have a wedding. The food is pretty good. For me what's best is just to sit and have breakfast or a drink and look out at the water. The beach tenders always go out of there way for you, on really hot days they even come around to you and give you a small cup of frozen fruit. The prices can get a little expensive is you want a chair and umbrella.. $10 for a chair and $10 for an umbrella so expect to pay at least $30 for two of you. That being said it is free to go to the beach and you are not obligated to get a chair, umbrella etc. Feel free to bring your own towel or sheet or whatever you choose to lay on. They also have stand up paddle board rentals.

  • Lesley D.

Server was amazing and knowledgeable of the menu. He even recommended other places to get dessert later in the evening. Food was perfectly done, but pretty pricey for the type of food and atmosphere. I know you're paying for the ambience of sitting next to the ocean, but I had a hard time paying $90 for a meal that would have cost me $50 inland. I would recommend it - just realize you're paying for a view as well as the food.

I think I might be rating this place mainly based on the view....but....the view is worth it. Went for breakfast, it was fine. Food is average, but the view is gorgeous. There's nothing wrong with the food, it's just not inventive or magically amazing. Our waitress was nice, the place is clean, you get crazy straws in your drink. We ended up going back to the beach to hang out for an afternoon.

Food wasn't bad, but we had the worst waiter ever, I believe his name was John. Once we were sat, he came to our table and said hello, stared blankly at us for a moment while we waited, expecting him to tell us the specials or ask for our drink order. Instead he simply walked away without another word. When he returned about 5 minutes later, he asked "are we ready yet?" Yes, we were ready the first time, when you didn't even ask. He asked this question quite a few time throughout our dining experience, along with a few other snarky comments. We constantly felt as if we were being rushed, despite the fact that they were not all that busy. All in all I would say the experience was ruined by his annoyed demeanor.

This was probably our 4th visit to this establishment. We enjoy the location and the food here. Right on the beach which is really great when the moon is rising. We've enjoyed lunch as well as a late dinner here and consider it a place to go when we visit KW. I decided to knock off 1-star as twice when we have been there there was a lot of seaweed on the beach which was quite smelly. Since it is an open air cafe you cannot avoid the smell, which this last time was quite pungent. Otherwise it is a great place with a friendly staff and good food and drink!

Revisited this past December with relatives and it was perfect weather for a great beachside lunch and drinks. I honestly love this place mostly because it's a great location and a clean friendly feel. Staff was super again. The menu is classic Key West fare with fresh fish sandwich cooked perfect to order. My brother in law had his first conch fritters and realized we were not in cold wet Oregon anymore. Great lunch stop and even the perfect spot to spend an afternoon on the beach getting excellent service refilling your favorite cold beverage. My favorite Key West pit stop!

It's counterintuitive to think that a beach-front hotel restaurant could be this good, but Southernmost Beach Cafe delivers with its food and service and doesn't just rely on its amazing view of the Atlantic Ocean. Our excellent Caribbean-themed wedding reception buffet came from the cafe, as did an equally stellar brunch the next morning. Southernmost is sure to please everyone in your group, as evidenced by the countless compliments my wife and I received from our guests.

Arrived in Key West on Christmas Day, sun-drenched, tired and hungry after a busy day of travel and activities in the Keys. Took the desk clerk's recommendation for a dining spot that would be accessible on the hotel shuttle and be open/serving on Christmas Day. Arrived in the dark, so missed out on what must be a lovely view of/from Southernmost Beach. Dining is an open air pavilion and shades were up to allow the ocean breeze to move through. Our server was friendly, but seemed to disappear completely for unfortunate intervals, making the delivery of water glasses and menus a drawn out process. He gave us overly AMPLE time to consider the limited holiday prix fixe menu. We placed our orders, and after an amount of time that should have represented the production of our meals, he returned with a manager to inform us that some of the menu items were no longer available. Orders were adjusted, the server moved off to adjust them with the kitchen, and we waited. And waited. Now, had the dining room been full to capacity, or the staff very limited, we could have understood and forgave those delays. It was a holiday evening, after all. However, at no time was the dining/bar area over half full and we could readily observe congregations of servers near their register station simply "hanging out". Meals were delivered. Appetizers were fresh and flavorful. Salads were appropriately fresh. Grilled lobster tails were tough. Hogfish was tender and well seasoned. Key lime pie was... too much- too sweet and too many flavors squelching the fresh, tangy experience that key lime pie should be (chocolate crust, fruit glaze topping - not sure what it was, had a "berry-minty" flavor). Yes, it was a holiday evening. Yes, none of us REALLY wanted to be there. However, serve, communicate and move forward with purpose and pride so we can all go on our way more quickly. Add some real food "misses" to the lackluster service and we definitely received a dining experience NOT worth the price tag.

Food was just ok Calamari - too chewy Red fish soup- better than expected. Fish wrap - pleasant Ambiance is good

It was a real delight. The key lime pie was top notch and the drinks even better. My cousin and I stopped in for some drinks and ended up staying for lunch because all of the food coming and going past us excited our taste buds. We both enjoyed some fish tacos and split a big catch salad. The view wasn't anything special but being in Key West is special enough.

This was our first meal in key west. It's quality food for a reasonable price. Details below: Drinks- we had the key lime margarita and mango mojito, both were excellent Apps- the conch fritters were excellent, highly recommend Salads- the house salad and beet salad both were very good Dinner- The pork tenderloin was good, it had a sweet glaze that we thought was a little too sweet. The Tuna stack was high quality tuna but again had something in it that was just a little too sweet. Overall, highly recommend if you want something a little better than a dive but no full upscale. This fits the bill!

Great place for a true Key West feel on the beach. The coconut shrimp are local, fresh and BIG! The fish tacos are delicious and come grilled, blackened or fried...get blackened it is delish! Fish & chips are also awesome. I think you probably can't go wrong with anything here. Also it is great fun to people watch here. If you are looking for a nice sandy beach to lay on you can rent a chair or umbrella right there and relax, they will even teach you how to paddle board.

We ate breakfast at this restaurant May 2nd,2014. The decor is pleasant and staff was quite friendly and helpful. There is a bar tucked nicely in the corner with TV's. But to our pleasant surprise, this restaurant has from every seat a mind blowing view of the ocean. There's even a pier and a small beach that's public right in front of where you dine. There is nothing other than spectacular I can say about this restaurants ambiance! Now the food, WOW!! I had corned beef hash that may have changed my life as well as delicious scrambled eggs with cheese and to die for French toast that had just the right crispness. My wife loved her mango mimosa and croissant sandwich too!! This is a must eat place on your trip to KeyWest. Were on our way for a second round in ten minutes!!!

  • Arcadian B.

Awesome food with an awesome view gave this place a 5 stars. Not the fancies but they had delicious and savouring seafood from the snapper to the lobster mac and cheese. Everything tasted great and it wasn't all that expensive too considering the view you get. Its an outdoor patio kind of thing so don't expect A/C but you get the nice cool sea breeze. Service here was great as well. Will definitely come back again!

Met our friends here for dinner. Key lime margaritas were the bomb! We split the tuna stack and it was perfect amount of food. I had the mango mahi and loved it! Perfectly cooked with mango salsa and asparagus with rice. My wife had the lobster and enjoyed it. Came back after sunset and got the key line pie! To die for.

Went for lunch yesterday. First waitress took drink order and suggested the sun kiss which was good. Then Bob took our order. We ordered two nachos. One plain one with steak then three more entrees. When one nacho only came we advised Andreai we were short one. He said he would check but never came back. When we were able to finally flag him down he explained one was ordered as entree, that was news to us but obviously we had asked since we wanted both nachos at once and he just didn't follow up after checking. Strange. The nachos arrived five minutes after we asked again. They were good but just ok good. The salad with blackened shrimp, blue cheese and almonds was actually quite good. The five of us liked lunch but. It was just A OK.

We got here around 2:30 in the afternoon and had about a 15 min wait. Great service - everyone came around to make sure we were doing ok and thanked us for waiting to dine with them. Extremely causal environment. The food was forgettable - except for the coconut shrimp that we ordered as an appetizer. Those were amazing. I could have had 2 orders of that instead of the fish tacos I ended up ordering. And the view was outta this world. It was fun to just kick back and relax. Would come again - but this time for just appetizers and a view - not a whole meal.

I stayed at Southernmost on the Beach, so this was very convenient. The menu is perfect, short but hitting all the elements. Dinner was great, breakfast was great, service was very good and I have to say that's a commodity in Key West. Prices were as expensive as everywhere else. Gretchen is the best.

Brunch review only. Super friendly staff greeted us and was able to accommodate our party even though we didn't have a reservation and almost didn't make it in time for brunch. Delicious Bloody Mary's and I had the eggs Benedict which was delicious. I'd prefer a little more citrus in the hollandaise but still good! And the prices on everything were quite reasonable!

  • Paul J.

Ay yi yi. I enjoy going to this place, but you must pack your patience to eat here. I say this because I, personally, have experienced nearly every time a lack of service. Majority of the time, you have to flag a server down to get your attention or take your order, and then of course a refill on your drink, etc. A lot of the reviews state the same thing - lack of attentive servers. It seems as though there is no communication on who gets sat where and who should be serving which table - there have been numerous times I've had to flag someone down. Aside from that, the food is actually pretty good. One of the best ahi tuna salads I've ever had and always tastes fresh.

    (3)
  • Rebecca R.

Definitely a hidden gem! The water was beautiful and shallow for a long distance out. Great for seeing a variety of fish. The beach offers a pier, bar, food and umbrellas ($10)/beach chairs ($10 each) for purchase - thank you Fletcher! Small beach, but does not feel crowded. Only critique would be that the seaweed washed up is not removed, but it is very minimal and did not keep us from coming back the next day. Cannot wait to visit again!

This ok meal was surrounded by beautiful views of one of the few 'beaches' on the island. We came during breakfast and it was adequate. Bacon was great and my crab and shrimp omelette was actually really good. Price is right and service was friendly and prompt. It's definitely designed for the wandering tourist in mind but not a bad meal

we rented bikes and rode down to hang at the beach. Got some chicken tenders and a couple of cocktails early this morning and it was great. Super friendly staff... GREAT chicken tenders and a nice place to hang for a while. I got a painkiller drink which was pretty delish - loved the nutmeg

Conch fritters are to die for and it's 3 blocks away from the Southernmost Point. The Beach Cafe sits directly on the beach and you have a choice of eating indoors or out on the patio. The cafe has a hippy feel to it. Enjoy!

  • Joe G.

Great view of the water and the service is very good. Kids enjoyed their mac and cheese. We also had the lobster mac. Would have give more stars but that night all of us got the runs pretty badly. Don't think it was a coincidence.

    (3)
  • Patricia S.

Have been here several times over the years. First, the view is beautiful, the food excellent and our server very professional. The reason for only 4 stars is the bar. While my husband went looking for a parking space (always a problem), my friend and I went to the bar for drinks. It wasn't very busy and there were 4 bartenders.. No one would even look at us! Seriously, I would try to catch the eye of each one when they walked past us....at least 3-4 times each...I even took to waving my arms...and yes, I did speak up ;). Finally I had to almost shout to get someone's attention....dragging him away from wiping down a half filled coke bottle...wtf???

  • Nidhi T.

Not good for vegetarians. They recently changed the menu which doesn't have any good vegetarian option. Really good seafood options. Pork egg rolls were really good. Nice ambience, we were expecting to get a table on the beach as shown in the previous reviews but I guess that was only during lunch. They don't serve food outside for dinner which was a little disappointing. Overall an average place

    (3)
  • Heather G.

Staying at the Southernmost on the Beach, this was obviously the quickest, easiest breakfast place to go to. The coffee wasn't that good.. service on 3 out 5 days was pretty horrible. You could tell the servers had rolled out of bed to be there and not quite awake. Way too expensive for breakfast. We only went for dinner one night and took way too long to be served... we didn't go back. Great location but other than that, nothing to write home about.

Went there on a Tuesday evening after watching the sunset on the dock next to the property. The meal turned out to be a perfect finish to a great day. Had pistachio encrusted grouper with mango salsa. My wife had poached Hogfish. The meals were excellent. The view over the water was fantastic. The service was also excellent. The meals were a bit pricy. It should really be rated with $$$ instead of $$. Still, a great place to go!!

It is one of the worst places I have eaten in my hole life. It is extremely overprice and the food is horrible.it is one of the places where they are more concern about the look of the food than for the taste. I regret eating here it ruined the night. Don't come it is not worth it. You can eat way better in mc Donald's

When visiting Key West for the first time, it was nice to spend time on both ends of Duval Street (the main drag on the island). Southernmost Café is on the Atlantic side of Duval and close to the much bally-hoo'd Southernmost Point in the Continental US ( yelp.com/biz/southernmos… ). It sits next to the beach, and we arrived on a late December afternoon when the weather was uncharacteristically cooler than usual. Overall, it's a decent option for eating and drinking if you fancy gorgeous beachfront views and the opportunity to lounge or even dine on the sand with a tall cocktail in hand. We chose to eat inside (it was cool for Florida!), with a great table right next to the railing separating the rooftop restaurant from the beach. -Conch fritters - fair, with good bits of conch and some finely minced sweet peppers in the batter. They were not as good as those at the Conch Shop, however, and were denser and chewier. -Fish Tacos - sloppy plating with black beans and saffron rice. I only had a bite of the taco - the fish was nicely fried. -Seared Ahi Tuna salad - mixed greens with mandarin oranges, pickled ginger, fried chow mein noodles and a creamy ginger dressing. The dressing came on the side - a pet peeve of mine. The salad bowl was packed to the brim with all the fixings, which made it difficult to mix the dressing into the salad. Overall, the flavours were good, but I've had better at Pacific Catch. -Pusser's Painkiller - husband was happy with this one. -Service and Coffee - very good and decent, respectively. As we prepared to leave, we watched 3 of the staff struggle to turn on a large heat lamp. The ambient temperature was perhaps in the mid-to-high 60s by then.

Not good... Slow service & warm expensive cocktails... My wife ordered a caesar salad with chicken but the chicken was poor quality with gristle and bone in. But the worse part of this disappointing experience was our son being served my whisky & coke and me being served his soda! We found out by him taking a mouthful. We received an apology but that was it... Unfortunately we wouldn't return to this restaurant.

My husband and I stayed at the southernmost hotel during our honeymoon so we visited the cafe almost every morning for breakfast. Loved the Bloody Marys! Also, the key lime pie was fantastic! It is so lovely eating breakfast right beside the ocean. The view was perfect. We always had excellent services so we came back almost every day.

Keep this simple. Can't get enough it's amazing, not a thing I've had has been bad and can't wait to go eat my next meal there. I strongly recommend the filet it is Devine.

  • Michael R.

Location is the only thing that impressed us (well, my wife thought it was cool that seagulls were walking among the tables). The cocktails were watered down and the service was so-so. The biggest let down were the conch fritters. My wife never had them before and I wanted her to see what she had been missing all her life. It was basically a spicy hush puppy with a shred of conch in the middle; you had to look for it. It was so minute, you could not taste the conch.

It is the southernmost beach in the continental United States. Well, according to the sign at the beach, it is. As mentioned in many of the previous reviews, this beach is small. It made for a nice photo opportunity though. Then we were off to explore Key West some more.

Found this restaurant on Yelp and so glad we went! Ate dinner there last night: I had the chicken Alfredo (perfectly seasoned, just the right amount of sauce) and my husband had the chicken sandwich (which was excellent). The views were beautiful, the staff was professional and made us feel welcomed. We would definitely return.

Great view, we walked from our hotel. The prime Rib was the best I have ever had! Our waitress was super nice and gave us lots of great places to visit in key west! It was expensive and prob won't do it x2 in one trip but a good experience.

Expect a 30-40 minute wait on wknd mornings. You'll get a device that will notify you when you're ready to be seated. If you're in a hurry or impatient you may want to consider your other options but if you're easy going & have a little time to spare you'll be glad that you waited it out! Side note, entertain yourself with a drink from the bar until you're ready to be seated!

I'm always wary of "eating at the hotel," but you can't beat the views at the Beach Cafe so we decided to give it a try. What a great surprise! The service was great and the food was arguably the best I've had in KW. I had the mahi salad, which was AWESOME. A perfect spicy mango dressing on a huge slab of blackened mahi. Yum! I thought the wine list was extensive and all reasonably priced. My husband tried the seafood trio special, which was very nicely done. I liked that the manager was circulating and that you (a) had a water glass and (b) it was never empty. Among a lot of tourist trap type places on Duval, Beach Cafe was a lovely little haven of good service and quality food.

If you are looking for a good drink, nice view, and beach goers near at hand - this is the place for you. For us and like another reviewer, the wait for a table was over 30 minutes so we opted for the bar. We weren't served by any single person and most times we had to flag them down. Portions were generous but the food lacked any uniqueness. The piña colada wasn't worth writing home either.

Food was surprisingly good. It was a little busy when we got there and service was a little lacking but our server seemed busy. Would come here again.

We stayed at the Southernmost House in Key West so this place was right down the street from us. We had both lunch and dinner there and had a few different experiences Lunch #1: The service was amazing. The drinks came quickly and were unique and funky, and the food was amazing. We built our own burgers (turkey and veggie) and then had a chocolate brownie a la mode for dessert. Donny was our server and he was both attentive and sharp. Dinner #1: We decided on having dinner there one day after a pretty long hike and the hostess sat us immediately. She said our server would be Ashley, but for the next fifteen-twenty minutes we were only given water by a bus-boy and saw two female servers in our area constantly walking by us, not noticing a new table. After about ten minutes my hubby got up to go see what they were doing and he found both in the back of the bar on their cellphones. So we got up and left, telling the hostess that Ashely could forget it since she was too busy. Dinner #2: There were TWO managers on staff this time and they also sat us immediately, and we had a different server-- the second one who was behind the bar. She was fairly nice and prompt and the dinner was delicious. We each had our own entree and a drink and the price ended up being around $70-- so not too shabby for a full dinner. Overall the experiences we had there were nice. The atmosphere is relaxed beachy-- there are locals there and half-dressed tourists filtering into the bar from the beach. The ocean is right outside the cafe and there are some large screen tvs for watching sports around the bar. I would definitely suggest going there for the food, but the service appears to be hit or miss.

After Walking Duvall street all the way down we came across this little gem. We happen to get there right at happy hour !! Great prices and great drinks!! The shrimp was DELISH and not over breaded . They also make a mean Makers Manhattan! MUY BUENO !

The best part of our breakfast visit was the beautiful vista...So busy at 9AM Monday morning...filled with tourists... Menu looked very promising... Unfortunately, not to be...No cafe con leche, no cappuccino...on the menu but equipment has been broke for quite awhile (waitress offered this info)... I just wanted some nice fresh fruit...Boo...It was terrible, almost all was so over ripe that it wasn't even the color it should have been... My husbands' meal was not much better...The staff was gracious and removed the charge and offered more fruit...Yuk, but, thanks!! So sad, considering it's a place that everyone looks for...

We made reservations (unnecessary as it turned out) for a Tuesday night dinner. It's a great location on a nice little beach (also the Southernmost). The tables were maybe half full, but the bar was PACKED. I found out why in the men's room, where they had their happy hour prices over the urinal: Well drinks, beers, wine amd rumrunners were all $3 (bar only), plus a few decent snack items for only $4. The drunks around the bar looked mostly like locals to my untrained eye. My Key West shorthand says tank top, cap, scruffy beard and flip flops = local (or a good wannabe). Anyway, we got a corner table beside the beach. It was a very nice view, but I was a little concerned because it was raining pretty good. The staff quickly pulled down a screen that kept the nice breeze but stopped the rain. As a huge added bonus, there was a big rainbow over the ocean after the rain stopped. They had a pound to pound-and-a-half lobster special for just $27, which I thought was a good deal. I'm not a big lobster fan, though, so we had the scallops. We added a couple of dinner salads and the conch fritter appetizer. I hadn't had conch since the last time I was in the Keys and I remembered they were pretty chewy. Well, I guess conchs are still pretty chewy. The fritters had a good flavor and we like the dipping sauce, but neither of us like stumbling upon the gristle-like bits. I don't hold the restaurant responsible for this (should I?). I figure conchs are conchs. The scallops were wonderful, though, and the waiter gave us a great tip for dessert (Better than Sex, a few blocks down the street). We came back the next day for happy hour and had a couple of $3 rumrunners. Perfection.

LOVED THIS PLACE. It's a bar and restaurant on the beach. We hit up a few beaches while in KW this time and this was the nicest. The place is clean and nice. The bartenders and hostesses are friendly. We spent 90% of our time on the beach - we were 13 girls in a bachelorette group. We ordered food and ate it on the beach too. The burger and sweet potato fries were so delicious. Burger cooked perfectly and the fries were not too sweet - just perfect. BIG SHOUT OUT TO OUR CHAIR GUY. We rented chairs for the day for only $5 a piece, he gave us a deal on the chairs. . It was hot and humid and he came up to us with frozen packets of fruit, popsicles and made sure we were comfortable at all times - super nice guy. A great spot to hit up while in KW.

While staying at the Southernmost Hotel - we layed out at the private beach next to this Cafe almost daily! Since we were too lazy to find a restaurant (and take a break from tanning) we ate lunch from here daily. We had: Cafe Calamari (could have used more sauce); Tropical Chicken Salad (my friend enjoyed this); and I had the Beach Cafe Caesar twice - once with grilled chicken and second with shrimp - both times very enjoyable! We also ordered plenty of mojitos from the bar while we layed out. As to be expected - the prices seemed to be relatively high but it didn't deter us from continuing to order.

Dear Southernmost Cafe, I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed eating here! The girls and i had been bike riding all day, and were starting to run out of steam. Knowing we needed to eat, and in search of some authentic Key West seafood, we found you and had our hopes up high. Let me just say how glad I was that you did not disappoint! :) Yay!! We satisfied all of our desires AND then some! You even are located on a public beach, where we were able to lay out afterwards, and enjoy a little fun in the sun. We all started with drinks, and let me just say some amazing ones at that. I opted for a pina coldada with Meyers dark rum, which has now become the only way I'll drink those. SO delish and just so full of alcohol. I can't lie, that one drink was all I needed for the afternoon. :) We started with the Cafe Ceviche which was out of this world! The fish was all local and extremely fresh, and that made this the BEST ceviche I've had ever! We also chose to share some BLT mahi-mahi wraps, which were also amazing. We couldn't even find room for dessert, but we had another round of drinks and headed to the sand to enjoy the sun. This was a great lunch experience! We loved the beach and enjoyed watching a wedding that took place around sunset on your sands. What a wonderful afternoon we spent with you! Thank you for all the fond memories. Hugs & kisses, SabrinaAnna*

5 stars for atmosphere and service 3 stars for food 4 stars for cocktails This is the second year in a row that we have stayed at The Southernmost Hotel and dined at the Beach Cafe. Just breathtaking views in this open air restaurant... Located directly on the beach, surrounded by palm trees, warm tropical breezes and a view of turquoise water. Definitely must try for breakfast and happy hour. The shrimp & crab omelette was excellent. The quiche of the day was a frozen supermarket crust and canned mushrooms. The bagel was darn good even by NY standards... fresh and generous amount of lox and was served with both cream cheese and a tangy horseradish sauce. Excellent. All the fresh fruit was superb... Super sugary pineapple. I would definitely recommend trying for breakfast or happy hour. FYI: The beach at Southernmost has a "No shirt, no problem" policy......so if you don't mind seeing an occasional topless bathing beauty, you can tack another star on for that =)

This is a hybrid review. Best mojitos in KW! Cafe and bar are attached to a cool little public beach. Easy to hit the bar and bring drinks to beach chairs. Small waterfront with paddle boarding and easy wading. We love hanging here for a few lazy hours. You can bring your own anything or sign up for available chairs and umbrellas. Easy pricing. Cafe is also very popular lunch spot for fresh fish, sandwiches and salads. Big portions.

After driving for 4+ hours from Ft Lauderdale and arriving in KW in the evening we didn't really want to walk around and look for a spot to eat. After checking into the hotel (Southernmost) we decided to have a relaxing dinner on the beach. A bit breezy so bring a light jacket or sweater especially during non summer months. It was a no brainer that we wanted to try some local dishes. We started out with some kick ass mixed drinks. Pricey but quite potent. For an app we decided on the conch fritters. Deep fried conch which were delicious. The spicy dipping sauce could have been a bit more spicy. For our entrees: I had the grouper special and she had the Mahi-Mahi. I am not a big fish eater but I was surprised on how good both of our entrees were. For dessert (since the front desk gave us a voucher for a free one) we went with their key lime pie. What made theirs different was that it was a oreo crust. The chocolate/key lime didn't go well (for us). I wouldn't recommend it next time. Service: good, friendly Drinks: Tasted the Southern Medicine (she loved it), Caipirinha (really good), Dark and Stormy (not to my liking but she enjoyed it). ENJOY!

We tried a bunch of restaurants in KW and the beach cafe had amazing food. We ate breakfast there then decided to do dinner as well another day. Prices aren't terrible considering prices in other KW places. The coconut shrimp and Cuban egg rolls are delicious. I definitely recommend this gem. Great view as well with the restaurant being on the southernmost beach front.

This place was so great, right on the water and a great happy hour. The food was good. Had the tuna sliders, wings, popcorn shrimp, and the grill combo. Except for the grill combo, the seasoning for everything was great and the popcorn shirmp wasn't over breaded which was a big plus for me. I ordered double the popcorn shrimp! It was happy hour so small portions but inexpensive so we could order way more and still be full for a reasonable price. Drinks were good, strong and tasty. Service was lacking. Granted it was happy hour but the service was only 2.5 stars. I placed my order at the bar and after 20 minutes when I checked on my food I was told it would be right out... Within minutes I get an order of the sliders and was told they ran out so no more (I had 3 orders of those). The guy who dropped it off with the bad news didn't offer anything for my inconvenience or even any other apps. So, after my dissapointment, I marched back up to the bar and ordered more food. The rest came out in a very timely manner but our table never got cleared of dishes unless we flagged someone down. Again, I know it was happy hour but if you are at my table already, just pick something up. The bartenders were quick and right on with the drinks though. Atmosphere was fab! Casual or a Key West dressy, place is pretty chill. It is all open so you get a nice breeze from every which way. They have seating outside and inside, plus high and regular tables. Beachy, great view, colorful decor, and big screen TVs. Overall, for the view and drinks, it was great. I will be back whenever I get back into Key West.

We went to this cafe almost two times. I say that because we were more or less refused service the second time. No, we weren't drunk! LOL. Anyway, we hit this place up as a first stop after checking into the Southernmost Hotel just a block and a half away. Beautiful view. Relaxed and comfy dining room. We had the conch fritters, coconut shrimp and of course (yay!!!) a couple of Mai Tais. Yum. Good food and great service from a 20ish year old brunette gal. We excitedly returned the next day for our happy hour only to be told by an older woman at the hostess stand that we couldn't share appetizers in the "dining room" and instead had to go to the bar. Me: "Do they have the same menu in the bar?" Her: "No. it's very limited." Me: "But we just want to share some appetizers and have some drinks." Her: "You have to order dinner if you sit in the dining room." Me: (sounding a little let down and sad) "But this would be like dinner," I protested." We'd order a few appetizers and drinks..." Her: "Sorry, no." Me: "Please!!! We're soooo hungry!" I didn't actually say this... I don't get it. Your dining room was.... EMPTY! It was 4 o'clock. Same time we had been there the day prior. WTF? Maybe she misunderstood what we were getting at (she was a little older and seemed kinda confused) but she basically told us that she didn't want our service. Boo. So we left, walked down to Mango's and had an awesome night. Ha!

Ahh the Beach Cafe! I've been here a few times and I've always forgotten what it was called. Each time that I have come here previously I just took in the sights and the water and moved on. This time I came for a great happy hour and stayed until it ended. Drinks were very cheaply priced as well as the food. I would suggest that you find a spot at the bar and just relax. I tried the cook yourself skewers, I finally got the hang of it. The other appetizers were tasty and definitely worth it. Go, enjoy the scenery, and all that is Key West!

We checked out the Southernmost Beach Café while looking for another beach other than Smathers. It is located at South Beach and about 2 blocks from the Southernmost buoy sign. The café's food is nothing exciting, but still for a quick lunch it did a fine job. I ordered a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. No complaints from me. I also had one of the Pusser's Painkiller buckets which was very good. Our waiter was very friendly and the service overall was good. It has a great view of the beach/water. It would've been nice to have outdoor tables, but the beach is too close for that. The beach did provide some interesting views of the beach goers.

I really enjoyed this place! We had a large party of 13 and were accommodated with no problems. Parking was easy -- found a space out front on a Sunday morning at about 10 am. No need to pay the meters until noon! That's a great parking tip for Key West travelers on a Sunday. Anyway, back to the Southernmost Beach Cafe. The view was great. Service was fast and efficient. The prices were more than reasonable. There was a Bloody Mary Bar available for those interested in a little booze with their breakfast. I ordered a BCT Omelet -- bacon, cheese, and tomato. It came with fresh fruit, potatoes, and buttered toast. I really enjoyed my breakfast choice. It was filling but not too large. I would definitely come back again!

A couple of friends and I had the most amazing experience at the restaurant while staying in Key West to celebrate a birthday. I could not have asked for better service and better food! We went to this restaurant because our concierge from Parrot Key Resort recommended it and made our reservation knowing we were celebrating a birthday (side tip: always make reservations through your concierge, you usually get great perks because they are advertising through each others business). As soon as we walked in, there was a party waiting to be seated and wanted a spot with a view (they did not make a reservation) and they were unable to accommodate their wishes.. turns out but when asked to be seated, I stated our reservation name and they immediately seated us to the only table left with an excellent view and asked if we would like any complimentary champagne (ummm... why YES!!) after being sat, our server was very helpful with the menu and when we asked to substitute one thing for another, stating we would pay the extra cost, our response was "We can make it happen, no extra cost!). We were sooo pleased. They also gave my friend a post card with a picture of Key West and a personal note from one of the employees wishing her a Happy Birthday. Our server constantly made sure we were being taken care of and even the manager came up and personally wished my friend a Happy Birthday and knew who she was. She also received a complimentary dessert (key lime pie, sooooo goooood!). If you are in the area, and it is your birthday or any other occasion, I am most certain you will be taken care of and feel special! The grouper was so delicious as were the truffle fries, lobster mac and cheese and everything else I tried from my friends' plates. Top notch, perfect all the way around! We were talking about this restaurant days after we visited and cannot wait to go back! Thank you for the wonderful service, good and all around great experience!!!

A little expensive but the view is so nice. We ordered several apps- coconut shrimp, tuna tartare, cuban egg rolls & truffled lobster mac and cheese. I was recovering from being sick the night before so my appetite wasn't too big but the mac and cheese and shrimp were delightful. The Key Lime martini was great- sweet but refreshing. The tuna was NOT good- my boyfriend ended up getting sick and it did smell a bit fishy. I'd still give it a 4 because the drinks and the rest of the food was really good and the view was the first time we were near the beach that vacation!

Our first night in Key West, walking distance from our resort. The menu is good, quite a good variety. We can't figure out if it was the wait staff or the kitchen staff but our food took forever. Then after it arrived it was not as we had ordered it. Previous to our order arriving they attempted to serve us twice, neither time being our meals. Floor manager wandering around with a smile visiting tables, asking about meals and service never stopped at ours. Tried to get her attention, she smiled and kept walking. Just an ok experience. If staying at the quiet end of Duval and Simonton choices are limited.

I just got back from (another) trip down to Key West, and we were recommended to check out the lunch fare and happy hour at the Southernmost Beach Cafe by one of the proprietors of the B&B where we were staying. We had Old Town Trolley tickets and the stop is about a block to block and a half from the cafe. Convenient! It's a cute open-air place with its own section of beach, but be aware you can't eat or drink out on their beach. There's a daily cocktail up on a chalkboard. Sailor Jerry rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine were mixed together the day we went, and we spoke with a couple who had something called a "Horny Parrot" another evening. Their happy hour specials were a great deal. Three dollar rum runners! Well drinks were also on special, among a few other things. We were really pleased with the service. Our waiter was prompt with refills and it didn't feel like we were ever being hurried through conversation even though he was behind the bar and taking care of other tables, as well. A couple other servers chatted with us for a bit, too. Food was okay. I'm a vegetarian and there was pretty much one choice for a meal and one appetizer. I opted for the vegetarian option risotto, which had peas and parmesan (I think) in it and was served with a couple garlicky toast rounds. It was creamy but didn't have a lot going for it in terms of flavor. I was hungry; it got smothered in hot sauce and I ate it. Would go back when I'm down in Key West, specifically for Happy Hour, though, and not so much for the food.

Wow! This was our last breakfast stop in Key West before the end of our trip and it was delicious! Both the view of the ocean and food was awesome. The prices were very reasonable I thought as well for the quality of food and great view. I had the crab and shrimp omelet with a side of breakfast potatoes-wonderful. There was a good amount of crab and shrimp and both were yummy. The hollandaise sauce and paprika that was on top went very well with it. I've included a picture of our table view and the omelet. Make sure to check out Southernmost Beach Café when vacationing in KW.I'll be returning.

Great view - you have the ocean and the beach right in front of you. After checking out the southernmost point in the US, came here for dinner. had a reservation and was seated right away. Unfortunately, I sat in a puddle on my chair. The hostess had a server dry it off, but it was still wet. Needless to say, was not a happy camper for the beginning of the meal. Was with my mom and we ordered pina coladas as a 'why not, we're in Florida so nothing has calories,' for drinks. Very standard, but good. For an appetizer, we shared the coconut shrimp with a mango salsa. Good. For my entree, I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered the black and blue shrimp salad, with apples, blue cheese, strawberries and toasted almonds. The shrimp were baby shrimp, seasoned and grilled. They were very generous with the shrimp. Also, the salad was HUGE. Needless to say, I was stuffed silly, and I basically ate just the toppings. My mom had the mahi mahi, grilled. It was a nice portion and cooked well, not dry at all. The prices were decent and we left very full and satisfied.

Went to this place for an outdoor wedding ceremony. It was open bar expect the bartenders were horrible, bitchy, and rude. Apparently their must not ike their job or people every time people would go to get a drink it took forever, and sometimes the bartenders seen you and walked the other way, and made terrible comments to customers. Food wasn't nothing to brag about. Will never come to this place ever, I fell sorry for people who come here for a dream wedding and have to put up with this terrible service. Would have gave zero stars if possible.

Great blackened fish tacos! Nice setting, provided if you don't mind birds wandering around the dining room searching for table scraps. You're on the beach though, so you have to expect it. Noisy near the bar, but again, that shouldn't be shocking. Overall, pretty good!

Here is what you need to do: Go around 11am on a fabulous sunny day. Get a chair in front of this cafe (only $5) and order a Pina Colada or whatever your beachy drink is. Then tan for few hours then go eat around 130pm then come back to your chair for few hours. The beach guy will kindly hold it for you while you eat. Now about the actual cafe. Drinks were good and string enough. The location and view is obviously unbeatable, I mean you are on the beach. The food isn't gourmet but has all the bar - Key West usual dishes as I call it from catch of the day to fish and chips, etc... I personally recommend the fish tacos. 3 huge tacos with fresh fish and nice toppings served with beans and rice. I was worried to be overcharged just because of the location but most dishes run around $8-$15 which was cheap I thought. Follow my perfect day and you will be happy ;)

While not as posh and drop-dead gorgeous as a similarly named beach up north in Miami, this place will always hold a special little place in my heart since it was here I touched and swam in the Atlantic ocean for the first time. Key West's South Beach is small -- so it can be somewhat crowded. I was more interested in swimming so this wasn't a concern for me. Chairs can be rented for $5, and a sign gleefully reminds all that tops are optional. A gloriously long cement pier borders the beach on one side, while a hotel lines the other. The sand is warm, white, and nice to walk barefoot on. Once you get into the water you start getting into the weird though. Minnows. Tons and tons of teensy little fishes ~everywhere~! They panic and start crashing into your legs in a most disconcerting matter, or if you are floating on your back like my man was, they will try jumping over you...fail at this and start bouncing off your chest. Amusing in retrospect, but a little weird while you are experiencing it. Once you get about 15 feet in the fishies are gone and you just have glorious warm open ocean to swim in. A perfectly fine if small beach, and if I find myself in the area again id happily attend again.

So good we came twice during our short stay. $66 to feed a family of 4 during happy hour. This included 8 Rum Runners. Happy Hour 4-7. $3 Drinks, $4 apps. Just sit in the Bar area and let the amazing service take over while you watch the sun set over the ocean. Staff rocked both times. Make sure you try the tuna sliders and ask for your last round in "to go" cups before you walk home.

Had their Mahi. No chef with any knowledge would leave a blood line in a piece of fish served to customers. Horrible. Fishy! An hour later and I was sick as a dog. Stay clear of this place unless you want to be sick!

Beach is small but there's plenty of room even on crowded holiday weekends. You can rent a chair for $5 (I think it's free if you are a hotel guest), or plop down on the sand. There are some rocky spots in the water but what do you expect? If you stay closer to the pier until you are out a bit, it's sandier. Service and food at the Southernmost cafe are good too and it's right there!

Smaller and more popular spot. Great for watching the sunrise. Since the beach is so small it can feel cramped, but if your early enough its fine. I say this because all of the other Europeans come with their spedo's and to tan wrinkly skin and kinda freak me out. Of course they charge for chairs and what not, but its a nice little area! Again my Little i mean LITTLE!

This place earns 5 stars because it underpromises and overdelivers. You're right on the water, in a crabshack-like open air spot that's there to do one thing, and that's supply you with a quick drink and bite while you're on the beach. Instead, the menu is loaded with a great variety of dishes, including sandwiches, burgers, pasta, fish fillets, and so on, and everything is extremely well done. You can walk in barefoot, and no one cares. It's really a fantastic little spot, especially for lunch mid-day.

Great place for a light meal, with a relaxing and beautiful and view of the ocean. My wife and I had a nice breakfast...service was reasonable and prices were fair.

Very relaxing and friendly place. My friend and I were on vacation and went there for dinner and brunch. Both times we enjoyed our meals especially the seafood trio for dinner which was a special for that evening. The brunch was also great with the key west benedict. I will definitely go there again if I'm in the area. It's very relaxing to just dine at the beach and the prices are very reasonable.

I'm pretty easy to please. It's so rare that I give out a 1-star review, either a place has to be downright atrocious or just a scam. Southernmost Beach Cafe happens to be a scam. I went in here with a few friends, who began mingling and socializing with the crowd of drunk patrons. We were there for perhaps a total of 45 minutes, and my friends had handed me a couple of beers as the evening progressed. At the end of the 45 minutes, the bartender handed me my "tab" which was $180. Those were the two most expensive f**king beers I have ever had in my life. Apparently, what they do here is they let anyone and their mother put alcohol on a tab and then just hand it to the nearest schmuck, and that was me. As I was separated from my friends at this point, I had no choice but to pay the bill or be arrested. I tried to argue with the bartender, who did such a great job describing who my friends were that were ordering drinks, despite me not giving two shits. I chose to pay the bill and handed them my AmEx Platinum. "I'm sorry sir, we don't take Amex..." Of course they don't! If they did, then all of their bullshit bar tabs would be disputed by Amex's team immediately upon leaving the place. I will return to Southernmost the next time I go to Key West, but the only reason will be so I can take a piss all over the floor. F**k this place and avoid it like the plague. Go anywhere else on Duval St and you will have a much better time and not get ripped off.

Great breeze flowing in off the ocean puts you in the mood for the smoked fish dip. The breeding was a little heavy on the fish and chips, but was plenty there to share with my wife.

I found this place on Yelp, and was relieved I made a reservation. When we got there the place was packed with a mix of locals and tourists. We were seated at a beach-side table (make a reservation) and watched the sunset over the water (The restaurant is on the East side of the island, so no view of the actual sun). The food was decent, but nothing out of the ordinary, we had a variety of fish and chicken based meals. The service was pretty spotty, I think they may have been short a waiter that night, but it took forever to get any service. Ordering desert required a series of attention-grabbing arm gestures and waitress-stalking, which only got us the attention of a different waiter who happily took our order, but it still took a good deal of time to get our coffee and dessert. The oreo-crusted cheesecake was great - I would recommend it as the most memorable part of our meal. Be sure to check out the map by the bathroom with all the pins in it from different parts of the world - pretty cool stuff.

Southernmost Beach Cafe was perfect! Located right on the water, this place makes the perfect breakfast spot! We had a total of 13 people in our group and were easily accommodated in a corner of the restaurant with beach on one side and water on the other. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. For breakfast, I had The One - 2 eggs, house potatoes, buttered toast with a choice of ham, bacon, sausage or corned beef hash (my choice). All breakfast dishes also come with a side of fruit. I got all of this for $6.75! The prices, especially when compared to other Key West places, are fantastic. There is a small pier right outside you can walk down to look over the water, parking is easy and really, it's the perfect stop on your way back home.

Second time at Southernmost Beach and definitely will be back. Along with great service and food the setting is perfect for Key West relaxation. The Margaritas are awesome I treated myself to two! I love their sweet potato fries and even their regular fries. Order both! I had a fish wrap which was very tasty. Can't wait for my next visit.

Decent food but you can't beat the gorgeous view!!! Make sure you come in your swim suit to lay out after you eat. The mango mimosa was delicious as well!

We came here for the topless beach & there were a few of us but we were def a minority. Had a fabulous Key Lime Margarita! Did not like the pina colada with the dark rum float - just not my thing. They did have a nice choice of beers too. We had a real case of the munchies and were more than satisfied with the carnitas nachos and a seared tuna dish - YUMMY!! The beach itself was kind of gross and smelly with seagrass making the water dirty and a guy on a tractor trying to clean it up all afternoon...

I was very disappointed in this place. Maybe based on all the great reviews I've read my expectations were too high. First, they do not accept American Express, which I use for everything. The service was ok, when he was around, he was good, but he'd disappear for extended periods. The Mimosas were $8, which is very pricy and it wasn't that great. We ordered the Quiche special which was okay and the beach egg benedict, which was good. We did have nice views of the ocean from our table.

This place has the best fun drinks. The service is very friendly and attentive even though this place is very busy. It's right on the beach which makes it a great setting. Definitely very casual lunch and afternoon drinks kinda place. #southernmost #keywest

I have come to Key West about a dozen times for business in the last 5 years. Every time I come, I visit the Southernmost Beach Cafe for breakfast at least once during my trip. Their Eggs Benedict is amazing!! For the first time ever, I was too late for breakfast (they stop serving it at 11:30) and had to order off the lunch menu. The Caribbean Shrimp Cocktail was delicious. The jumbo shrimp doesn't disappoint but the cocktail sauce is very spicy. I also had a Mango Mimosa that was heavenly. I also had the Blackened and Blue Shrimp salad. As always, it was delicious. On top of all that, the view is amazing. My only issue with this place is the pigeons walking around. If they stayed on the floor it wouldn't be too bad but I saw one flying around a couple of tables away. I am glad I wasn't sitting there.

  • Bryan B.

Grab a key lime margarita then grab your belongings and leave. Conch fritters had no conch or flavor unless drown in sauce. Overcooked lobster stuffed with what tasted like canned crab. Cold mahi on my salad - candied walnuts tasted like they were out of a fruitcake. Tri-seafood special entree had no flavor. Good mashed potatoes and strip steak. The bread was good or maybe I was just glad it was not bad. Key lime pie has a nasty vanilla and raspberry drizzle and oreo crust - and the key lime filling was just ok. We all agreed that the best thing about this restaurant was the atmosphere and the view...worst part was the food.

Great place to chill and have some cocktails and even rent a chair and umbrella. We have been to Key West a million times and done all kinds of tours, from pub crawls to the train. The drinks are fun and good, the Barbados punch is killer. I believe conch fritters are an acquired taste, I didn't care for them at all. But the fish and chips looked awesome. We were able to score some chairs and an umbrella and enjoyed the water. I recommend this place if you just want to relax and enjoy the peaceful calm of Key West. Dreaming I was still there now!

My first and last meal in Key West were at the Southernmost Cafe. My friends were raving about the shrimp tacos. Unfortunately, during our first trip they already switched the dinner menu. No biggie, we ordered up a bunch of appetizers for the table. Our second trip we came back for lunch and were able to order sandwiches/tacos. Overall thoughts: Environment: The scene was an A+. We were sitting practically on the beach in a quintessential beachfront café. Food: This was a solid A. I had the eggrolls with pork, goat cheese and beans for my first appetizer and then a grouper sandwich for my lunch. They let me order my grouper sandwich off the menu so I was able to squeak in my grouper fix before leaving the island. It was prepared blackened and it made my day. I ordered it with a side salad which had a tasty little Caribbean vinaigrette. Beverages: Between my two trips I had a mojito, key lime margarita and 32 ounce bucket of their rum punch. All three beverages were wins, especially the rum punch. There were 5 types of flavored rum in a bucket and they did not skimp on the rum. It was fruity, strong and at $13 a real bang for the buck. Service: The service was just okay. Both servers were nice, but weren't overly attentive. The service was flat out slow for our lunch visit. Critters roaming the restaurant: Pigeon fail. I didn't go out to eat to have pigeons brushing up against my feet. These rats with wings were very comfortable around people and would walk right under the table. They are the reason I'm deducting a star. The food, beverage and beachfront property ultimately win the Southernmost Cafe a 4 star from me.

-The view was beautiful. The water wasn't as beautiful. - The best bucket drink - The best nachos! - inexpensive - Friendly staff - I didn't enjoy the pigeons everywhere

^^ 4 1/2 Stars for Breakfast My husband and I strolled over for breakfast on a Thursday morning and grabbed two seats at the bar (as per usual). There were two rotating bartenders at this time, Ed and ?. Both were wonderful. Attentive, sociable, helpful and fun. First up we received our water orders and proceeded with a bloody and a mimosa. Both drinks were on special for a 2-for-1 $5 Happy Hour Breakfast special running between 8am and 9am. Who knew? They were tasty and refreshing for the $5 tag. Bonus day! Our orders came out in a timely fashion. French Toast ($12) for my man, and Shrimp and Wlld Mushroom Omelet ($13) for me. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his french toast. My omelet actually came with swiss cheese as well, but I switched that out easily with the bartender for tomatoes instead. Both the omelet and accompanying potatoes were delicious. Overall, it was a very nice experience and we look forward to visiting again. SIDEBAR OBSERVATIONS - Since the buy-out and new ownership, the menu and rules of the establishment/staff have changed a bit. Will give it some time to see how things shake out. I took a peak at the DINNER menu on another visit and the PRICES seemed VERY expensive. Though beautifully presented, the price tags were heavy for a place with a no tablecloth atmosphere. Not a place I would visit or bring a family with children on a budget for dinner. TIP - Stick with lunch or the breakfast or late day happy hours for the best prices.

I thought everything was good, but my husband was under-whelmed. The coconut shrimp was REALLY good. The conch fritters were too chewy for me, but maybe that's just how they are. We tried to order them another time somewhere else to compare, but the waitress there forgot to put it into the kitchen so we never got them. The drinks were tasty as well (a bit small, but not way overpriced). It is a nice view, except for the (large) lady smoking out on the beach right in front of us and blowing her smoke into our faces. There's a cool pier right outside as well that's worth the trek. We thought all the staff were perfectly friendly.

Great place to sit, eat and enjoy the topical key west atmosphere. The cafe is literally right by the beach and it's open so it feels like outdoor sitting from the inside. He service was fast and the food was tasty. Prices were also average for the key west area. Overall it was a great experience with our little toddler who truly enjoyed watching the ocean and the birds while eating her Mac and cheese.

Excellent view..the restaurant is right next to the ocean/beach.. We came here for breakfast..we ordered breakfast taco, Southernmost waffles and freshly squeezed orange juice.. The food are just okay...I don't think there is any that really standout to me...the breakfast tacos had too much eggs..kinda out of proportionals.... the southernmost waffles..too much syrups on the waffles..by the time i ate the waffles..it is soggy..and on the menu..it stated that there will be some fruit on top of the waffles..there only THREE thin slices of bananas on top of the waffles..and it charged us more than 10 bucks for the waffles. The only think I like about this meal..is its freshly squeezed OC...it's fresh and tasty..

Had breakfast here on Memorial Day. The location is amazing. Its a million dollar view. Apart from that it's very average. The host was disorganized and not super friendly. One of the managers told us she wanted to choke her. Our server though was friendly and very helpful. I would add that she was very apologetic for our food taking FOREVER to come. She must have stopped by 4 times to say it would be out soon. I had to think hard to remember what I ate. It was okay. I had the BELT (Bacon, Egg, Lettuce and Tomato) croissant sandwich. I might go back for the decent price, great view and acceptable food.

The location and view were nice and the service was good but the food was pricey and not great. We both got the fish tacos and neither had any seasoning and the tortillas just fell apart as soon as we picked up the tacos. For the prices they are charging, more attention to detail would be nice.

Took advantage of this place twice while we were on vacation. Feel free to grab a spot on the beach and line up at the cocktail bar and get a drink for the beach. TRY THE KEY LIME PINA COLADA. It was the best we've had in Key West. I drank it way too fast, it was like a milk shake. THIS IS A MUST TRY BEFORE LEAVING. Also, make it a point to come here for breakfast or lunch one day and sit inside in the open air restaurant and face the beautiful blue water. It really makes you feel like you're on vacation...the beach...the salt water...the mahi-mahi BLT wrap. It was a great dining experience! Like all the places in Key West, the food comes out super fast and accurate. I can't complain about this one. Twice, on different days, the bar had an "accident" drink, and we got an extra bloody mary, and Pain Killer Rum Bucket. so THANK YOU!

We stopped here after our jet ski trip for an outdoor spot to air dry while eating. My ceviche and *the best pina colada I've ever had* were both delicious. The service was good even on a slow day, and the price was standard for Key West.

This is a place to enjoy the views. The breakfast we had here was the worst meal we had in Key West. Maybe lunch and dinners might be better, but my recommendation would be drinks and the view.

  • Dave O.

So you stopped in because of the location, the name, or because it'll be cool to say you were here? Those are all good enough reasons, never mind the view, the beach, the warm clear ocean water, the great service, the surprisingly amazing food and drinks, you've arrived so snap a few photos to make you the envy of all your friends back home then put away the camera, turn off your phone and enjoy the real reason you came to the Keys. This place is located at the end of the road where the sand meets the water and you can witness the sun kiss the ocean everyday. Fortunately I can drive here anytime I like but for most this is a short stop over for the cruise ships or a well planned vacation destination it doesn't really matter how you get here you are here so experience it all. This place should be considered when making your list of things to do, don't get back home and have any regrets and appreciate how lucky we are to have been here even for a few moments. The blackened chicken sandwich was one of the best I've eaten the ahi tuna so fresh and light matched with a few perfect margaritas it really is that simple here.

We went walking through Key West early in the morning and spotted this cafe, so went in for a bit of breakfast. The food was amazing/fantastic/out of this world. Sure it was a bit more expensive than the basic spit and sawdust eatery but this is Key West and in this case, the price was worth it. It's right on the beach too, so a great location and excellent view.

Can't beat the view at this cafe! Yummy blue cheese olive Bloody Mary. We went a couple times during our week on the island. Between us all we tried French toast, lobster eggs Benedict, shrimp eggs Benedict. All plates were tasty. wait was minimal and you're literally right on the beach.

Had the fish of the day grilled and blackened. It was ok. I'm from Louisiana so my general comments are lacked flavor. It was fresh but needed seasoning. Staff was super nice and view was pretty at sunset, which is why I'm giving it four stars.

Came here for breakfast... Considering that it's eggs and bacon and toast. In my opinion it's above average expensive. Added a waffle to my order.....10$ Yep you read that right, plain waffle. But the food is good. And the view is great. The service on the other hand is mediocre at best. Kept having to ask for a drink. Wife asked for lemon for her water, never got it. If you are near by and want food, grab it here. If you have a scooter and can go else where, I'd hit Blue Heaven

My family and I decided to try this place on our first day in town. The service was so so, our waitress was not very personable. I ordered the chicken and waffles, I have had better, but this is Key West, what can you really expect?!? The prices were pretty affordable for key west so I guess that alone gives them another star. The view of the ocean while your eating does make the food taste even better. There were a total of 8 in our party and know one was unhappy with their breakfast so, I guess that's an additional plus for this place...all in all we might swing by again on our next trip down here.

I fully intended to eat here, until I walked up to the counter of the empty restaurant and asked for a table for two and a menu to peruse as we walked to the table. The extremely rude hostess ignored me, and asked the group of three behind me how many, and where they would like to sit. I immediately turned around and walked out. Beware of bad service. I wouldn't even waste my time at this place.

  • Natasha D.

I want to like this place, but the service is so slow. It's always packed on the weekends for brunch. The Food is pretty good and it comes out quickly. The breakfast potatoes are unique and really tasty. The bartenders are nice but it's nearly impossible to get their attention. It's like they're trying to hide from people. I get it, tourists suck, but we love drinks and food as much as the next guy. Get moving! Definitely a happening spot and right near the southern most point, so it's worth a visit. They have some decent specials on drinks and smaller plates on Sunday morning too. Check it out, but plan to try to be patient with the uber busy staff.

  • Wade H.

Loved this place. I work in news and we were shooting a story on their beach (yes. They have a beach). One of the staff came out and asked what we were doing. She then helped with anything we needed. Just a waitress that happens to be a very nice person. Had brunch on saturday at the bar because the place was packed. Patrick, the bartender, is extremely nice. Great service and a cool side note....hot! Friend had lobster Benedict. I had key west Benedict. Both were great. Fresh and perfect eggs. Not to mention a perfect veiw of the ocean where ever you sit.

We stayed at Best Western Hibiscus. I watched sunset with my boys here and noticed the place. One certainly cannot complain about the location unless you hate eating on the beach with a view of the Atlantic. We ate here two nights in a row. First night we didn't realize we should get a reservation so we waited 40 minutes outside with sodas that bartender agreed to refill with no hassle. It was a warm night and relaxing overall. My son got scallops the first night. Best dish there. I tried lobster tail which tasted more fishy than I expected. Wife got Mahi Mahi. It was not warm by time it was served. As if it was finished first and left out while others were finishing up. My other son got a noodle shrimp dish with bacon. The bacon was too strong in dish, but I'm not a huge fan of bacon to begin with. We tried Key Lime pie for desert. Not nearly as lime tasting as I thought it would be. This was a plus! It had a cheesecake consistency. We came back second night because my son wanted scallops again. So did I! The lobster mash potatoes makes the dish 5/5 stars. My younger son stuck with a kid meal. My wife got a burger. Everything was cooked well. No complaints. We had a reservation for 7:15 and got table by open window. The night was a little breezy so light jackets were helpful. I enjoyed my only glass of wine the whole trip. It was Key West after all! Drinking seems to be mandated based on all the drinking I observed. (Kidding). The "southernmost" names all around the area are a bit too much. But I guess that's the draw. The famous picture spot with the buoy is a block or two away. If the place were called Just North of the Southernomost Point, I'd appreciate it. But I have an off sense of humor.

Ordered the fish and chips nothing to write home about, just average. There's usually a little bit of a wait if your looking a for a table but you will get quick service at the bar. staff are always friendly and professional.

I wish I could rate the food, service and view, however, because we were treated so rudely by the hostess we left. I would not recommend going here as there are far better places to spend your money , where not only will you enjoy the food, service and view, but you will actually feel welcomed.

so much wonderfulness about this place! it's good enough that it's right on the water. like....RIGHT on the water. But aside from the beautiful ambiance, the food was good too! The service was subpar, but I'll assume that was a fluke. My date and I went for lunch. APPETIZERS: Conch Fritters-So good!! I've never had conch in any way before but this was really good! Looked lightly battered and then fried. Seared Tuna - The tuna was fine. Didn't really move me one way or the other, but it comes with a little seaweed salad on the side. ENTREES: Blackened Catch Wrap - My date got this. The catch was the mahi mahi and he loved it! Seared Tuna Salad - Ehhhh....for it to have SO much in it...it just didn't do it for me. It was good but I feel like something was missing, if you can believe it. And the tuna itself is bland. But it was a great dining experience! Definitely want to go back for brunch!

It seems like this place mostly gets by on the view and the name. I have to admit that the view is superb and the drinks are strong, but the food could use a little work. It didn't seem to be much more than bar food with a Key West twist. I didn't have to wait too long to grab a seat at the bar but then I had to wait a while before I was served. My drink order was taken and then I had to ask for a menu. It was a while before my drink came and I was ready to order, but they dropped off my drink and walked away to the next patron. I finally flagged another employee and he took my order. I got Conch Fritters and Fish Tacos. The fritters were alright, as were the tacos. It was too much for me to eat in one sitting, so I eventually got the attention of another server and got a box for my leftovers. They held up pretty well for two days. If I were taking advantage of the beach in this area then I'd probably stop in for drinks, but I think I'd pass on the food. It's overpriced for what it is, in my opinion. As I said, you're paying for the view and the name, and as another Yelper mentioned, you can see the same view from many other areas on the key.

  • D R.

Saw this place during my morning jogs. It's off the busy Duval beaten path but it's worth the walk. Casual place. I had the fish tacos-they were freshly grilled and piping hot. The onions that they use as garnish are marinated in red wine vinegar which adds a different taste experience than the usual raw chopped onion. Corn on the cob is sautéed and topped off with a light dusting of cheese. The ocean view here can't be beat. Can't wait to come back.

This is a Key West-style outdoors restaurant right on their man-made beach that is the southernmost cafe in America. They offer the usual breakfast fare with some seafood add-ons if wanted. I had the lobster Benedict which is poached eggs, lobster, spinach, and key lime hollandaise, atop a croissant served with a side of potatoes. I asked to sub grits for potatoes which was a great decision because the grits were very creamy, not watery and runny like you might find at some restaurants. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the sauce was thick and flavorful with the hint of key lime as promised, the spinach sauteed, and the croissant was wonderfully flaky. I always enjoy it when restaurants use alternative breads other than a tough English muffin in their Benedicts. We were there early in the morning at a table in the shade and it was still pretty warm so keep that in mind when you go. The service was great, no complaints and no mistakes. It's always on my list of places when visiting Key West. After you finish eating you can take a short walk to the Southernmost Point buoy for a great photo-op as well.

Great view! Came here because most reviews said this place was great. We made the right decision. This place had a great view of the water from pretty much wherever you sat. Our server was awesome! Very friendly and on top of her game. The drinks were cold and tasty. I ordered the hickory burger which was very good. I'm not a huge fan of fish but my wife ordered the mahi sandwich and she loved it! Overall , this place has the view, the service, and the food. I would easily eat here again!

I'm not sure what was happier to discover The Southernmost Beach Cafe, my feet or my stomach. For anyone who hasn't visited the Keys, you do lots of walking. As a beach bum, Southernmost is the best of all worlds. A gorgeous beach view and delicious food. So good in fact that we went back for breakfast the next day. On our first visit, I ordered the french toast while my husband had what they call The One. My french toast almost tasted naturally buttered as I didn't need to add any more or syrup for that matter. The whip cream and fresh fruit were complimentary to the subtle sweetness of the bread. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast because it was a little bit of everything: eggs, bacon, toast and cheesy, delicious potatoes. He commented a couple times about the bacon being the best he's had, not too crispy not too soft. On our second visit, my husband tried the biscuits and gravy and the South Florida girl in me had the lox and a bagel. While he prefers the biscuits and gravy at Two Friends, my husband did enjoy it here as well. I tried it and it was a little heavy on the sausage flavor for me, but he loves that. My bagel and lox is pretty much error proof, but I did happen to notice the generous portion of lox and it was fresh. There was also a generous amount of capers and fresh tomato to garnish the dish as well. I had to ask for cream cheese as it came with a horseradish sauce that I don't particularly like, but it came pretty quickly. The true sign of a good restaurant is when it's just as good the second time; it was. If you are looking for a yummy breakfast with a priceless view, Southernmost Beach Cafe is where it's at.

I discovered this gem on my last trip to KW and plan to stop by on all future visits to this apocalyptic drinking town. As the name suggests, it's right on the beach, with an open air beach house feel, the food is great and the service is friendly and efficient. I usually sit at the lively bar and make friends immediately with whatever midwestern couple is next to me. It's a great place to eat , drink and chill with a 5 star view! Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The view is everything the reviews say. It is beautiful! I enjoyed the early morning mimosa and the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. There was nothing over-the-top great about the food but it was good and fulfilling. The view and ocean breeze make this place worth visiting.

Found this little spot while riding our bikes. Bar is on the beach and has great views of the water. Worth the trip down for a drink!

Stopped here on our last day in Key West. My friend thinks this place is amazing, I however thought it was just fine. It has a nice location appeal because it's nestled on a small beach front. The food was good. (Not mind blowing amazing as some lead you to believe.) I had one of their Key West Benedict and my friend had scrambled eggs and fruits. If you're looking for standard american dining, this would be your place. It's key west so prices are going to be a little high but it's really not that bad. Again, it wasn't mind blowing amazing food. They seem to fill up fast so plan for a possible wait. Or skip that and dined at the bar counter like we did.

I loved this place, two days in a row for brunch. We tried everything and were disappointed by nothing. The smoked salmon and bagel came with a horseradish sauce that added a interesting twist to the meal. Also the cuban eggs Benedict is the ultimate hang over remedy. Also try to the rum-chata iced coffee!

Love hate relationship with this little place. Love that it is right on the beach, if you have been to the Keys, you know that finding a beach is like looking for a needle in a haystack. We had breakfast here and came back for lunch. Great prices, delicious food and friendly staff. Hate: Again (see Scottie Landing post), while sitting at the bar we observed a bartender making a daiquiri, for some one else, when a part of the blender fell off on the floor. A part that comes in contact with the drink. She picked it up and put it back in the blender and continued making the drink. Bartender's continued using the blender and not one person washed the blender. Birds walk around the restaurant floor pooping. We saw waiters and patrons stepping in it, oblivious to it. It would have had a strong 4 starts if not for the sanitation/health concerns. I don't want to think about what goes on in the kitchen that i cant observe when preparing my food.

I came here ONLY to get some photos of the sunrise so I can't speak for the beach itself. I will say that it didn't look super enticing though and you can probably do better. There were a few other people that showed up for the sunrise also but there was plenty of room and decent angles. There was some unplanned for cloud coverage but I still got my shot so win-win all around.

This little restaurant was just delightful. The whole thing opened up and the ocean was right there to watch. It really added to the ambiance having the ocean air blowing through the building. Great service and reasonable prices. I could have done without the pigeons. I realize there is food and open windows, therefore, birds will follow. I'm just really not a bird person and I had to keep track of where they all were the whole meal. They can sense your discomfort... I had the fried fish tacos and they were quite good. However, the sauce was the best part and there was a serious lack of it on my meal. Very dry. Key lime pie? Oh yea they have it. It...is...awesooooome! A must have here. So creamy it was almost like cheesecake. It was presented well with a chocolate and raspberry drizzle. Get it!

Southernmost Beach Cafe is a lovely piece of paradise. Delicious fare and refreshing drinks right off of the beach with an amazing view. We stopped in after going to the butterfly conservatory and the Hemingway house. They have a decent draft beer list, awesome margaritas, and other beach-y cocktails. The atmosphere is quintessential Key West, as you can't get a more tropical and beautiful location. Service was a bit slow at times, but they were quite busy and it was prime lunch time. We ordered up food and enjoyed each other's company and the warm sea breeze. The fish tacos I ordered were pretty delicious and everyone seemed to enjoy their food except that my mother wasn't a fan of her ceviche. I really enjoyed my experience and would definitely go back the next time I'm in the Keys.

Right on the beach!! Good drinks, great happy hour. We had the smoked fish dip with pita chips and it was excellent! Very convenient, friendly, and reasonably priced. Perfect for the beach!

The food is extremely good. Nice quaint restaurant by the beach. The waitstaff needs hospitality 101. No smiles at all. Friendliness would make the visit so much more. The southernmost waffle is served with a buttercream syrup...Delicious.

5 stars for the food. The fresh catch menu was offered by waitress and we did not regret! Seabass was great - literally the best I've ever tried. The view is awesome as well - right on the beach.

Brought in our own catch of the day to be cooked. It was nice to have multiple choices of how to have it prepared . Service was fast and the presentation was very nice ! Definitely order the grill corn on the cob, it is heavenly. Great view on the beach, you might need to wait to get seated .

I was in Key West with a large group of friends and our rental was near Southernmost so we stopped in for dinner our first night. The restaurant is located at the end of Duval right on the beach so it's the perfect location for your first we're on vacation meal. Even with 11 1/2 people (a baby counts as half) on a Friday night they were able to seat us within 10 minutes. Service was great, glasses were kept filled, orders taken promptly and food delivered quickly and still hot. I had the pork belly and it was delicious. The grits it came served over were equally as good. I also tried the burger, free range chicken, braised short ribs and candied brussel sprouts. Everything was tasty. No one in the group complained about anything and there were several compliments on the food. The average was around $30.00 per person and that included a couple drinks and beers so all around not a bad price at all for the quality of food.

Double mimosas, Black & Blue Bloody Marys & the Shrimp & Grits....amazing!! Saturday Brunch in Key West - you MUST come here. ArJay is the perfect bartender/server/host. The Southernmost view is breathtaking. You will LOVE this place!

A very scenic location for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! This is my second day in a row coming here and the food has been excellent each time. I had the hickory burger one day, and French toast the next. My boyfriend had the Fresh Catch BLT wrap one day, and the biscuits and gravy the next. Everything was fresh and enjoyable. Our only qualms were that it doesn't take long to be seated, but it does take a bit for the food to come out. Everything is a little pricier than other locations, but I suppose you're paying for the view and ambiance. Overall, our experiences here have been great, the waitstaff is very kind, and we will be sure to return.

I wanted to love this place because of the location and I can finally say I DO! This was our first stop during this visit, for an early dinner after arriving in Key West. A storm was just rolling in, and we had a front row view of it, as well as the pastel sunset that came afterwards. The food was great...I ordered the mahi mahi sandwich with parmesan truffle fries, a side of bok choy and a pinot grigio. That cold wine tasted amazing, and the blackened mahi was delicious. The bok choy was a little bland. The service was great, and the atmosphere was perfect...we were able to relax after a long, tiring day of travel. We ended up eating here three times during our trip, and I'm sure our next visit to Key West will involve multiple visits to Southernmost Beach Cafe. Visited September 2014

My friends were staying at this hotel so we were hanging out at the pool/beach and decided to eat here for lunch. Very cute little beach cafe with an ocean view! Their coconut shrimp was great. I had a chicken sandwich with pineapple on it. Kind of messy but very enjoyable. I was with a group of 7 girls and we were all barefoot; the atmosphere is that casual.

I like the Southernmost end of Duval St as it is away from most of the nuttiness of the rest of Duval Street. And the Southernmost Beach Cafe is a beautiful place for Sunday brunch! Open, airy and with great views of the water (we saw a guy and his dog paddle boarding while we ate), it is a nice way to spend a morning. This morning, there were 6 of us. It was busy, but we were still seated fairly quickly. There were a few breakfast specials that looked tasty, but most of us stuck to the menu. I chose their Key West Benedict because I am sucker for shrimp and for Hollandaise sauce. Their take on serves the eggs with and English muffin and asparagus spears, shrimp and hollandaise. It also comes with a side of fruit. I was not disappointed with my selection. DH had the Breakfast Tacos. He must have enjoyed them because they were gone before I could steal a bite. I would certainly come back - especially to try the conch fritters other reviewers keep talking about!

  • Tripp P.

Ordered a bowl of the conch chowder that had no conch in it. The waiter sent another bowl that had a tiny bit more in it but not what you'd expect for the price. Probably won't return unless we were out of options. Great view though.

Best Pina Coladas on the island. The servers are friendly and most can make a good drink. From almost every seat you can see the ocean and during most of the year it is nice, Expect a bit of seaweed during the summer.

This is one place you must go to while visiting Key West. It sits right on the beach, open aired and full of tropical flare. We went twice for breakfast and both times we were very happy with our choices. Highlights: Shrimp and Grits. Chicken and Waffles. Southernmost Toast. But everything we ordered was very tasty. Make sure you stop by. You won't be disappointed.

all hype. went here for lunch. greasy fish and the fish and chips, guessing was refried and the hoil was not hot enough, shrimp on my po boy was tough like rubber and the mahi magi sandwich was dry. if you like these then this might be the place for you.

Located right along the beach where you can cool off in the water while you wait for a table to open up. Food was good, I'm a fan of their macaroni salad that accompanies their sandwiches. Mixed frozen drinks were good and in the price range of what you can expect to pay in the Keys. Be sure to stroll to the Southern Most Point for a photo op and the Hemingway house on your way back.

Limited breakfast menu...didn't even have English muffins. Must be catering to the immediate hotel crowd, but nothing special here. Go across the street to the local walk-up Cuban breakfast & lunch counter...MUCH better value and food.

We arrived the morning of New Year's Eve and we were looking for a place to get a nice breakfast. We had just been to the southernmost point and noticed this little cafe with an oceanfront view. We checked the restaurant on Yelp and it had 4 stars, so we decided to give it a try. Oh boy. I ordered the smoked salmon omelette. In theory, it should have been delicious--the menu boasted of a perfectly cooked omelette with goat cheese, smoked salmon and avocado. Yum, right? Unfortunately the execution was beyond poor. The avocado wasn't ripe and the tanginess of the goat cheese overpowered the other flavors in the dish. Additionally, the omelette was over cooked to the point that it tasted like a dry sponge. I think you get the point. Let's move on to the next dish we ordered, Lobster Benedict. The lobster tasted alright, but there didn't seem to be too much of it. The biggest problem was the poached egg. It was basically raw. The yolk ran all over the place. I understand that some people may like this--I myself enjoy eating a slightly runny poached egg. But here's my dilemma: we also ordered the Key West Benedict, which consisted of asparagus and shrimp on top of a traditional pair of eggs Benedict. These eggs were poached until the yolks were completely hard. The server didn't ask us at all to what degree we wanted our eggs to be cooked and yet there was so much variation. Consistency is key and here, as in many other aspects, this restaurant falls flat (on its face.) In addition, THERE WAS EGG SHELL in the Key West Benedict. While the other flaws in execution are forgivable, here is where the Southernmost Cafe crosses the line. All aspects of our meal revealed absurdly sloppy execution and I hypothesize the only reason this restaurant is still in business is because it has the word "Southernmost" in its name. I will not take the risk of eating another meal here, but the other reviews seem to suggest that this restaurant's lunch and dinner fare are considerably better. Having not had that experience, I can only advise you to NOT stop here for breakfast (in spite of the beautiful oceanfront view.)

The hubby and I were here for a post wedding brunch. It has a great view and a bright and breezy atmosphere. I got the corned beef dish which was nice and meaty and the husband got the Southernmost Beach Cafe (pretty much everything but the kitchen sink) which was nice and filling! I would come back again if I'm ever in Key West again for the tasty food and great view! Stop by the Southernmost Point Buoy (be a true tourist) on your way out to walk off your food baby...it's just around the corner.

Had macadamia crusted grouper and partner had the filet mignon and both were wonderful. Entrées were beautifully prepared and served. Key Lime pie was memorable. I would not go back due to uncontrolled cigarette smoke drifting in from the bar. There is no place one can sit to escape it. Smokers get preference here.

Service was great here. Food was very good as well! Recommend the big catch salad or tropical chicken sandwich. The portion was very generous. Fresh ingredients and by far the best cafe in key west! The view of the beach is okay. You stare at people on beach with limited clothing. Our experience this day was a funny one. One man with a nude string thong posing and taking pictures... so u never know who's going to be out on the (small) public beach!

Very good salad---called Black & Blue--with shrimp and the best Key Lime pie we sampled in Key West. My husband had crab cakes which he enjoyed. And both liked the conch fritters.

Grilled Yellow Snapper was delicious and presented well on a well cooked bed of rice. If it was $26 it would have been 5-stars. Will try the Sobe burger ($19) if I go there again ... Saw it delivered to several tables.

Before I begin writing about Southernmost, I have to admit I am a person of rituals. Southernmost is on my must-do list every time I go to Key West, so it has a sentimental value for me. That said, I love Southernmost because all of my experiences have been consistently wonderful. The cafe is situated on a little public beach in Key West, so the people and the view are just fun. The staff is friendly and attentive, and I have never felt rushed, which is one of my key elements for a great establishment. Now, Southernmost is usually my Saturday-morning hangout because I wake up hungover and need a drink and some food to prepare me for the day. I typically order a mojito, which is descent and comes with two twisted straws for your aesthetic pleasure. I know they also do a business in bloody mary's, but I am not a fan of the drink, so I cannot really vouch for the quality. Nevertheless, the booze receive thumbs up. As for the food, I feel like I have had a couple of different items, none of them too memorable other than they must have satisfied me and not left a bad impression. After all, I go back every time I am in Key West, so the food must be descent. Right? So whether you are in Key West with your family, your lover, or your friends, head to Southernmost because you are guaranteed to enjoy yourself.

This place is quaint brunch greatness! My daughter loved the French Toast, I had the veg omelet, my wife the shrimp and bacon omelet and my very picky child the Goldie lox: salmon and eggs! Everything was awesome...

Came here for lunch. Had John E. as our waiter. That dude earns his money. Some of the best service we received in our 4 days in KW. My wife and I both had the Fish Tacos. Very solid effort. I also had the seafood chowder, which was decent with lots of chunks of fish and even shrimp. Nice time at the SBC.

I had the Cuban Benedict... Wow! It was amazing (not to mention a great concept). If it wasn't for that dish, I would have lost my head. The service was the worst of had EVER experienced. The server took almost 10 mins to get to us (party of 2). When he did, we gave him the entire order. The food came quick, but before the drinks. I couldn't get the servers attention to let him know that we were still missing drinks. So, aggravated I tried to find the server. I saw a water pitcher, and cups at the bar. I grabbed two cups and poured my own water glasses. After the server found time to check back with us on our meal, I informed him we were still missing our beverages. He quickly got them. We finished our meal and the dishes were cleared. Our server had disappeared again. We waited 30 mins with our credit card on the table before I finally called across the dinning room, the servers name, to please process our bill now, there is nothing else we want but to leave. My fiancé said I was generous to even pay the bill, let alone the drinks. My dish was great tasting, but the service destroyed all sense of enjoyment from our experience. Being South Florida residents who frequent the Keys as a weekend get-away, we will never go back.

Over priced average food. We were all disappointed in the quality of our food and the prices were much too high. We paid for a nice view of the ocean but did not like our macadamia crusted grouper, calamari or chicken dishes. They were Diner quality.

While these nice folks let us "in" a few minutes before opening, the food was just not good. My eggs were rubber. There was one piece of toast and three tablespoons of cheesy shredded potatoes. Coffee was so-so. Nice location and view from the patio. But the rest was disappointingly lackluster. Soooo many other options in key west for delicious food for the same price.

The food is good a little pricey. Sat at the bar and the bartender AK was as friendly as the firearm she must have been named after. She was smiles to employees but treated patrons as if she was doing them a favor.

Small beach but there is actually sand and it is nice sand. The water was fine, full of sea grass but that is normal for Key West

The beach is small and the water isn't particularly clear... But it has a great view and a nice pier for watching the sunset. I wouldn't spend the day here, but its good for an hour or two of relaxation. Oh, and if you're going to stay a while, bring your own chairs or you'll be paying a bit for the ones on site.

During my trip to key west my wife and I went here almost every day..the breakfast was great and nicely priced..never went there for dinner but went in for lunch one of the day. There wasn't any tables so we sat at the bar which turned out to me a great idea, all the bar tender were very cool and the fish taco I had were the best.

A five star view for a three star restaurant. Sit in the main covered patio area for a nice view of the beach and water. Despite our rule of not going anywhere more than once during our trip to the keys, we made an exception for this place. Our first visit was for lunch. We weren't super hungry, but we were thirsty and my wife thought the shrimp quesadillas sounded really good. I wasn't a huge fan of them, but she really enjoyed them. I just don't think the shrimp flavor went well with the other ingredients, and they were far too many onions in it. The rest of the menu is pretty overpriced and like most of the restaurants in the keys, the drinks were tasty but weak. So why did we keep coming back here? Happy hour. From 4-7pm, three dollar draft beers, rum runners, well drinks, calamari, land & sea grill (a couple of kabobs with a fire to cook them over), tuna sliders and hot wings. Sure, the food portions are a little small - but at $3 each, you can get a few and fill up without breaking the bank. We came back a few times to get the sliders, calamari and wings - but the land & sea grill wasn't really too impressive. Bartenders here vary. Some of them are really on it and pour stiff drinks. Others are apparently independently wealthy enough to not have to worry about working for a good tip.

Tuna tatake - a loin of ahi tuna seared and thinly sliced served with a wasabi sauce, seaweed salad and dandelion green salad. Refreshing and flavorful. Ceviche - served with tortillas as a dip. Good flavor, a bit too acidic but good. Turkey wrap with house dressing - Not bad, just good. Service was okay, the bill was $33, so not too bad for KW.

We ate here 4 different times during our 5 day stay. eating 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 1 dinner. Each time was GREAT. Staff was very attentive, food was great and served quickly. Best views on the island with the beach maybe 50 feet from you. Will definitely be back!

    (5)
  • Jordan N.

I'm not sure, but I think the cement pier is more of a draw than the beach itself since the beach feels cramped as it's bordered by the pier and by a sea wall on the other side. The beach sand looks nice, and the water looks like (as does most of the water off of any one of the Florida Keys. But if I come back here, it would probably be for the cafe by the southernmost beach in the continental US.

I went to Key West in February and this was my husband and I's last dinner and it was perfect. We were seated against the windows where we were basically sitting on the beach with tiki torches lit on a beautiful night. Our waiter was excellent, I wish I could remember his name but I do know he is from Destin FL. He was attentive without being overbearing and even recommended some cool places for us to check out after dinner. The coconut shrimp was delicious. I will definitely be back next time we are in Key West

We walked out because the hostess wouldn't seat us in the dining room for drinks only. With two kids in tow we weren't going to sit at the bar, and that's the only place with Happy Hour. As we left I saw a guy with a managerial look and a nametag, and guess what!? He bought us all a round and served it himself. We then ordered fish dip, calamari, and conch fritters. It was too much for us, having eaten lunch shortly before, but I wanted to try them all. The calamari was pretty good, but truly, given the other reviews, I expected more from the conch fritters. They were ok at best. The guy with the golden banana hammock and butt floss was brief entertainment that I could have done without. Our issue was resolved, at least for us, and I took the opportunity to show the manager the similar comments on Yelp. Hopefully this problem is solved by the time you come by, because it IS worth a visit.

The southern most tip in the continental US with a pretty decent, albeit small beach. It wasn't as sunny as I would have liked a beach day but I can't blame the beach for that only Mother Nature. Otherwise the sand was clean and the view is beautiful. It also helps that there is a bar smack dab on the beach so you can booze in a lounge chair while napping and or reading a book. What out for the hammocks on this beach though. They'll spit ya out as soon as you sit down. I swear I know how to get in and out of a hammock. I swear!

Location great! Food fair. I'm sure what you pay for here is the location because the food is just okay but expensive. The service was very good - so I don't blame them for average food. I had the grouper, which was overlooked and dry. The wine was perfect though! Lol!

  • Franklin H.

Great location. There is a beach right outside this place. Breakfast was fine. Service was good. Was here on vacation so I am not likely to return anytime soon... but if I am in the area again I will check them out.

We were told to go here by the staff at our hotel promising us an "amazing" dinner but it wasn't even close. It was just mediocre, but there aren't a ton of really good places to eat in Key West so we ended up going for breakfast which was, better than the dinner service. I had the french toast and although good, nothing to write home about. The view of the water is pretty.

This is a cafe around the corner from the Southernmost point (The buoy thing?). The cafe is open-air and sits off the beach at the Southernmost hotel. Ocean and beach views are tremendous. So sitting down, I braced for the beach prices. Pfft!! What a shock to see normal cafe pricing at a place that is so pleasant. Food: Great. Service: Great (Thanks, RJ!) Pricing: Great. Having a cold long neck, and a dolphin sandwich with conch fritters on Key West: Damn! Why'd I come home again?

    (5)
  • Danielle A.

Ohhhh mango mojito!! How I miss thee. Started off for breakfast which was good and cheap with a great view of the ocean! Came back later that day to hunker down from the storm outside and the bartender whipped up his signature drink.. mango mojito. One of the best cocktails I've ever had. Suddenly it was happy hour which meant drink specials and half price appetizers. Had something that required us to roast fish and veggies over a little flame on the bar. Not sure what it was, but it was tasty and fun. Will definitely return during the next trip to KW!

  • Luci L.

Not amazing but good beachside fare with great service. We had the conch fritters to start, which we didn't like, and we sent them back (nicely). Exchanging them was no problem, and the manager even came over to apologize - she said that some people didn't like them and thanked us for giving them the opportunity to bring us something we would like. Now that's good service! We had the coconut shrimp instead which was yummy. We had the tropical grilled chicken sandwich and wasabi tuna for our entrees - both tasty. And all washed down with a key line margarita - delish! A cute little place, gorgeous views and right on the beach.

  • Timothy L.

I know Key West isn't known for their beaches, but this place is bad. The ocean views from the beach is blocked by the adjacent resort on one side and the pier on the other. Half the beach water-side is actually a gigantic rock and if you don't rent a chair, you feel kind of awkward just lying on the sand. The $2.50 and walk/cab ride to Fort Zachary Taylor State Park is worth it. Higg's Beach is a little nicer than this - it at least has better views. Smather's Beach is about as good as it gets on Key West.

We stayed at the Truman Hotel (see a different review for that) and our room was not quite ready. Not familiar with the area I asked for a suggestion. This was one of them. Several ice cold draft Landsharks, a rare tuna appetizer and a pulled pork sandwich later I was full and content to let the room be ready whenever they got it done. The atmosphere is chill. Sit around and watch the beach or people watch the people on the beach. A nice place to relax and have an easygoing lunch.

This place looks like it would be a bit of a tourist trap but it is sooo not. Great drinks, cool open air beach atmosphere and the best Calamari I have had to date. Also, it was cool to have the bar right next to the beach like that.

Don't let the casual atmosphere fool you. The food here is outstanding for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The service is very good and the bar-tending staff is awesome. My fiance and I tried other, pricier places during our stay and enjoyed the food here more than any of those other places. If you're staying at one of the Southernmost properties, don't skip this place or disregard it as the "hotel restaurant". You will be doing your palate and pocketbook a disservice! LOL

Absolutely awesome place to come to eat breakfast , lunch or dinner. Location is right on the beach on the southernmost part of Key West. You can find free parking close to the restaurant on one of the local streets. We went for lunch on Sunday morning and i ordered the Mahi mahi grilled burger and my wife got the Shrimp quesadilla. They were both awesome. I love mexican food and this was one of the best shrimp quesadilla's i have eaten. It was like the chef actually took some time and effort to make it. It was fat juicy and full of shrimp. Yum.... My mahi mahi burger was also to die for. The fish was grilled to perfection and had a lemony flavor. Totally worth it. Washed all this down with a spicy bloody mary. Later that night we were looking for a place to have our favorite desert and not many places served it. Hot Chocolate brownie cake with Vanilla ice cream. My wife remembered they served it here so back we came at night for dinner. Our waitress Ashley , who was super nice and helpful, promised us that it was to die for. We ordered the pan fried Yellowtail and Ashley even split the plate so we could share it. One order was big enough for both of us. The hot chocolate brownie and ice cream desert was just amazing. I would fly back to Key West just for this. A big thanks to Ashley for taking care of us and i hope they promote you soon. Good job....we will be back for sure.

We had our last night on the island dinner here after charter fishing earlier in the day. They were able to cook up what we catch and it was excellent. They took our catch and prepared three styles (grilled, fried and blackened) with he Mahi-Mahi. The only issue I had were the kids. Granted it does state Cafe' but i would recommend that if you want an adult dinner then i would steer away from this place. Other then the kid situation the is place is great.

My husband and I stopped here after a long drive from Orlando. The location is absolutely perfect, we had a table inside but right next to the window. He ordered the pulled pork, I ordered the cajun fish tacos and a key lime colada - to die for! Service was pretty good for being busy. Being from MN I doubt I'll be in Key West again anytime soon, but I'd come back again for the ambience alone. We were only in the area for a short period of time, but I feel like we got the Key West experience here.

They do not take AmEx. Get with it or keep losing business before you have a chance to earn it.

This review is for their bar only. Great location, nice bar, bartenders are good & friendly. If you like Key Lime Pie like I do, try their Key Lime dacqueri. Delicious. Had one their way and another my way with vodka instead of rum. I'm Russian so you can guess which I preferred! Given their great location and monopoly for this beach the prices are reasonable. $9 for a mixed drink.

This is the southernmost beach in the US, which is a novelty that doesn't do much to help or hurt. It's a tiny beach with very little actual lounging space (much of the beachfront is overtaken by a cafe), but the water is pleasant enough for wading and bobbing, though probably not clear enough for snorkeling. When we were there, there was some sea straw in the water, but nothing icky. The kind of skeevy beach caretaker has a sign up that invites topless sunbathing, but the beach is so cramped with families and aforementioned skeevy beach caretaker that I can't imagine many women partake.

Great location, Food good - great breakfast and right on the beach. They do a "build your own omelet". Great value, great taste!

When I think of Key West, I think of good times and great food at Southernmost Beach Café. It has great food and cocktails with reasonable prices overlooking the ocean. I had conch fritters there for the first time and it was DELICIOUS! I also love their mango daiquiri where I discovered black strap rum. All in all, it was a great experience and I look forward to returning there!

Location, location, location! Service, service... well you get the picture. Firstly, did I mention location? Well I should have. But besides that, the beach view and ocean view is wonderful in the morning. Coffee and breakfast here is fantastic. I had the sausage gravy and biscuits. It wasn't the best I've had, but it was pretty good. To top it all and to round it out, the service was very good and fast! The wait staff was attentive and worked hard for their tips. If you don't tip 20% of more here, you're a cheapskate and should be chastised (and that's something you may not want to face in Key West.) Now it is outdoors (covered), so you'll want to come when it's not too hot (like November through February).

This open-air cafe is an ideal location to enjoy looking at the Ocean and beach. The food was good and prices were very reasonable, especially considering the location. I had the fish tacos and definitely would recommend it. Our service was great and the server was entertaining.

I took my wife to the SMB for her birthday dinner on Friday. She was looking forward to a favorite meal, Caribbean Clams. This time, though, she was disappointed to find that the garlic sauce had been spiced up to excess. Not one to let things slide, she asked our server (who was excellent!) to send the manager over. "Cabe" came to the table promptly and as soon as he heard that she didn't like the meal, he immediately told her that there'd be no charge -- and that because it was her birthday, she'd also receive a free dessert. As we were leaving, he approached and said that he had talked to the (new) sous chef, and that she could expect to have the familiar recipe the next time we went back. Something can always go wrong in any restaurant. The measure of a great restaurant is how it responds when it does. SMB remains very high on our list of places to go.

This is a great spot if you want a great view while you eat and who doesn't? Without a reservation we were able to get a table looking out over the beach on a Sat night at around 7. The mahi mahi was really good and so was the chicken with avocado sandwich that I ordered. The real highlight of the meal was the key lime pie that was made with an oreo crust. I hate oreo cookies but I LOVED this pie. We had a wonderful waitress who was funny, checked on us often and made sure we had everything we needed. This place was really laid back and fun and we couldn't have asked for a better location to linger over beers after dinner.

This is a wonderful spot! Right on the water so a gorgeous view. Service was super. Jessica was our waitress and we loved her. Conch fritters were pretty tasty but entrees were amazing! Tuna: So so good. Loved the wasabi dressing and also a touch of sweet. Yummy seaweed salad ane veggies. This really was one of the best tuna entrees I have had. If you like your tuna totally unadorned then this is not the dish for you. I highly, highly recommend. Maui: Also so good. Boyfriend loved it. So fresh and a creative salsa to accompany. This is a really great spot. Casual and easy going. Gorgoeus view. Tasty food. Check this out for sure!

Fun place to eat! Had breakfast here this morning, great view of the ocean. Completely casual, wide open set up, relaxed atmosphere. Service was excellent and the food was really good, large portions. The menu wasn't huge, but I think they had something for everyone. Parking was typical of most key west restaurants,we parked at a meter.

Stopped in for a bite to eat during lunch hours. The place has a very nice vibe to it. It is situated on the beach, with numerous fans spraying mist around the room. The service was OK. The waiter could have checked in a bit more but nothing horrid. The food was good. It wasn't anything earth shattering but for a quick afternoon bite before my exploring the area, it was quite good. I had the fresh catch wrap and my girlfriend had the blackened mahi wrap. While the fresh catch wrap was good, the mahi wrap was worlds ahead of it. She ended up getting full and I "helped" her with it. If you want a quick bite, some fish, and a beachy feel, this is your place.

Since we were staying at Southernmost on the Beach Hotel next door, we came here 3 times (once for drinks, two times for breakfast). It bothers me when someone with this amazing location knows they can skimp on the food quality because the will get repeat business due to their location. First experience - sat a the bar. Bartender was terrible. She forgot our appetizer order, and was curt. All she did was talk about how she didn't want to be there. Second experience was breakfast. We both ordered the yogurt with granola and fruit. The menu said tropical fruit. It was mainly melon - the green and yellow concoction you can get anywhere, anytime. One strawberry, four blueberries. SO NOT worth the $9 we paid. Third trip we thought we'd do a real breakfast. Once seated, I think we sat for 15 minutes before someone came to see us. Once we ordered, it took 30 minutes for the food. Ummm...it's just eggs, bacon and toast people. I have had better food at Denny's. Will never return. I hope they realize that eventually, you have to serve decent food, no matter how good your location is....at least, I hope.

We visited this location based on the Yelp reviews. I had the daily special... the 1/2 lobster tail, 2 scallops, and two shrimp with a tomato sauce over tortellini pasta. The sauce was flavorful and the seafood fresh. It's wasn't bad and it wasn't the best I ever had. A friend of mine had the yellowtail snapper dish and she was underwhelmed as well. The Key lime pie was different as it has a Oreo cookie crust, we definateky had better key lime pie else where on Key West. If you are already at the beach and are looking for something to eat go for it, however no need to make a special trip.

We'd been riding our bikes around the island and were starving. We found this spot randomly and stopped to eat. It's open-air and the food really is pretty decent. Nothing fancy, but good enough to where I'd go back again. Plus, it never hurts that the view is great!

Don't bother. Bland food. Poor service. Not worth it when you have so many other options. We ended up next to the edge and had to smell the pot being smoked outside by a bunch of teenagers.

I really liked this place, you can stare at the ocean while you eat! The peel-n-eat shrimp was juicy and yummy, the calamari was awesome, and my turkey burger was delish! (Don't judge me, I know it's a lot of food but I was with the bf and friends!) The bf got some sort of wrap and did a good job clearing the plate. The thing that stood out was the service--awesome! The bartenders are super friendly and very welcoming to visitors like moi.

Great food, great drinks, and amazing views. Make sure to get a table as close as you can get to the beach. I had the shrimp wrap and it was great. I could have sat there for hours.

Saturday night we had dinner with some friends at this restaurant. The service was ok [even though the server kept forcing me to keep my dirty main course fork before main course arrived]. The problem came with the food, I ordered a filet mignon medium. My friend's wife ordered a filet mignon medium rare, When they brought the food they swaped the plates and I ended up having a filet mignon medium rare. I asked the waiter for more fire on my filet mignon and they brought me back a rare. Sorry. I am not going back any time soon.

On the first night of our stay in Key West we decided to just begin to walk around to acquaint ourselves and unexpectedly we found ourselves at Southernmost Beach Cafe at the bar for our first honeymoon drink. We were incredibly lucky to find Bill at the bar that made the most amazing key lime margarita. It was exactly the right tone to set for the days ahead of us. We returned 4 times in 4 days looking for Bill...he was the best. The food also amazing...as was the view.

Cold food. Slllow service. Unfriendly [female] bartender (we ate at the bar)... Will never go back for food. "Just another tourist", I'm sure they say. "Just another tourist with Yelp mobile, I say.

This place is not only awesomely situated right at the southern most point, but the service is super friendly and the food is tasty. When the weather is good they have the whole place open to the outdoors so you can really enjoy it. Great cocktails too.

I love this place! I was staying at the hotel and despite the fact that I planned to explore different restaurants every day, I came back here 4 times for breakfast. The BCT (bacon, cheese, tomato) omelet is delicious. Lunch choices are pretty good as well but the breakfast really was the draw. Good view of the ocean and a nice breeze. The service is awesome and very laid back. Cynthia is hilarious and so is the the long haired host kid.

Follow the process! This review is for lunch. It's pretty straightforward here at the southernmost spot for great fish, great service and a beautiful view of the ocean. Have never been here without a bit of a wait. Provide a name to the hostess (she is very diligent and is inclined to put up with all of the posers who don't want to wait for a table). Sit outside under an umbrella or wait at the bar and you will be found and courteously escorted to your table. Please be courteous. This place is ALWAYS busy (which we like in a restaurant - keeps things fresh). Don't take yourself too seriously, read the menu and place your order with the ever perky and friendly waitstaff. Then relax. Food arrives, always fresh and delicious (my fave is fish and chips) and enjoy! The staff will not abandon you and will stop back to check on things throughout the meal. If you follow this simple process and don't end up loving this place and the great staff, you need therapy, not vacation.

Considering KW is not known for its great beaches, this place comes pretty close. You can set up on the beach with chairs and umbrella and go inside for drinks. We went for lunch and ordered Black and Blue Shrimp Salad per the waitress' suggestion. It was refresheningly delicious. The key lime pie had a chocolate graham crust and could have been in a food magazine for its presentation. It looked better than it tasted. Stop by, you are guaranteed to have a good time.

Spent a week in KW in early May and on the crappiest, rainiest day we got all week we wound up here for lunch and the fish tacos I had were some of the best I've had in my life. It was certainly one of the best meals we had all week - which is saying something considering we ate out almost every meal all week. Everyone in my party also very much enjoyed their food and drinks. They offer a nice variety of draft beer (I believe I had a Landshark, a Kona Koko Brown, and something else that escapes me) as well as interesting specialty cocktails. We sat at the bar and were well taken care of by the friendly, attentive bartenders. I dream of revisiting this place daily.

Don't waste your time or money here!! Both of us ordered the burgers neither came out cooked correct temp. Hubby suffered through while I sent mine back. I had ordered medium rare came out well done. When the second burger arrived it was missing the onion straws. The meat is very low quality and greasy!! The only thing actually barely edible were the truffle fries although I didn't detect and truffle flavor just lots of salt and parmesan cheese. Service was very slow but got better toward the end of the meal.
